Not necessarily. I had it and after the pregnancy approx. 3 months later My sugars were back to normal. u must exercise and be careful about what you eat during the pregnancy otherwise your body will think high sugar is the norm and then you will end up diabetic. GOod luck!

I had Gestational Diabetes with my first pregnancy. I got diagnosed 3 1/2 years later with Type II diabetes. You will always have a 50/50 chance of developing Adult Onset diabetes up to 10 years after delivery. I also found out that my mother has Type II. It is hereditary.

No! As soon as the baby is born, the gestational diabetes goes away.

However, you will be at greater risk for Type II diabetes later in life...

No. Gestational Diabetes is 'gone' once you deliver. However...you are at an increased risk of developing diabetes later in life.

i have it now. It sucks because i am scared that i will have a huge baby. I first started out with just pricking my finger to get my sugar level. Then since that wasn't working, i had to start taking insulin shots 2x a day. I know they say that there is a chance u might have it after the baby is born. A lot of people say that it may leave once the arrives. I have decided that i am too young for this, and as soon as the baby comes i am going to the doc so that way he/she can teach me how to take better care of myself. I don't want to be 50 or 65 years old taking insulin shots.

No you will not. I had it with my second child but tested negative for it after it.
You may have an increased risk of developing it later in life though.
