If there is any doubt at all in your mind you repeat the test, and the ultrasound. Just let at least 7 days pass in between ultrasounds for the baby to develop just in case it was too early to see. If it turns out that the sac keeps showing up and not the baby, then it probably is a blighted ovum. You can google it, but basically the sac develops but the baby never does for some reason. It is like the pregnancy just stops progressing to the step. It is similar to a miscarriage however in this case the fetus does not develop. It is nothing that you did to cause this.

Working backwards on your comments: I'd request a blood (serum) pregnancy test or even an HCG test. (HCG is the amount of preg hormone in the blood and in a normal pregancy,it will correlate to a certain number of weeks for the pregnancy). There is a condition of pregnancy called a "blighted ovum" where everything forms-except for the embryo. Another person answered that the embryo may have died and then got resorbed by the mother. It also is possible to have a gestational sac, then have a "silent" miscarriage(no bleeding),& then the hormone count rapidly drops. Still another posibility is an ectopic pregnancy where there is a psuedo or false gesttional sac that is formed by the hormonal changes, but the pregancy is in the tubes.
The earliest a viable (living) embryo can be seen is at 5.5-6 weeks via a vaginal sonogram-about 7 weeks on a non-vaginal sonogram. Check with your doctor, hopefully he'll do some bloodwork to help ease your mind-I wish you well!

So you were 2 weeks late which means you were 6 weeks pregnant. I've had plently of scans done at that stage, they have to do an internal scan to see properly and you should be able to see a blob in the sac by then. But if your doctor didnt tell you anything was wrong try not to worry too much, if I were you I'd make an appointment to go and discuss your concerns and see what he says then!

Your doctor did a sonogram but not a blood test? Why don't you go take a urine test yourself?

If you were 2 weeks late, then technically you would have been "6 weeks pregnant". I was 12 weeks when I had my first sonogram, but I know people who had some before that.

I had my first sonogram at 5 weeks since nothing could be seen they did a vaginal sonogram all you could see was a small dot did your doc tell you you were preagnant ?you need a follow up or simply go to another doctor take a home test if it comes back negative you really need to to see your doc you are probly stressing also .also some contraceptives can mess up your period something to think about .best advice go see the doctor again.

You can usually see the sac and stuff that early but the baby is WAY to small to see. I've had a lot of sonograms and been able to see the growth of my baby's. Usually around eight weeks you can see what looks to me like a little teddy bear :) Don't get discouraged, keep in contact with your doctor and have another blood test done to make sure. Good luck to you!

My wife's doctor ordered a sonogram early in the pregnancy because she had tested negitive on two pregnancy tests. He was concerned that the pregnancy was 'tubal'. It wasn't tubal, but all we could see was a thobing lump.

At less than a month, I doubt the fetus was developed enough to even show that.

So when is your follow up appointment. If you were two weeks late then you should have had a 5 week old fetus in you sonograhm. Call your doctor back today.

I saw my little guy dancing around in there at 9 weeks. Sometimes they can't see the "Embryo" until later on and that was probably the "Yolk Sac" that they seen, not the placenta.
Its still a possibility that you are pregnant. The embryo might be too small. Vaginal ultrasounds are better than stomach ones.

Sounds similar to what happened to me with my first "pregnancy." All that was seen on the u/s was a gestational sac and then I miscarried - it was a blighted ovum - where my body thought it was pregnant - but not all of the chromosomes were actually there to form a baby.
