I started giving my daughter rice cereal in her bottle at a month. .Just don't make it thick and don't put too big of a hole in the bottle. Doctor's don't always know everything. Babies are hungry. I gave my baby the cereal in her formula and she drank it like she hasn't eaten in years. Do what you feel is best. Use it gradually. My mother did it with me mothers mother did it. We're all fine and have yet to choke.

No, it's not safe. It's a choking hazard and it won't likely help your baby sleep longer. Babies still need to be eating 8-10 times (or more) a day at that age. Just be patient and let your baby be a baby.

Solid foods should not be started until at least 6 months (some docs will say 4, but the current AAP recommendation is 6). By the way, if your doctor says it's okay to put cereal in a bottle at 10 weeks, find a new one.

No. It is never safe to put cereal in the bottle. The baby can choke on it. Follow the recommendations of the doctor. Studies have also shown that cereal does not help babies sleep more at night. A baby isn't capable of sleeping through the night before 4 months because it's stomach isn't big enough to hold enough formula to keep it from getting hungry sometime during the night. Most doctors recommend no solids before six months because studies have shown that babies who have solids before than are more susceptible to food allergies. We waited until then because he already had eczema and we both have allergies. Cereal to keep a baby from waking up in the night is an old wives' tale. My son was ten months old before he stopped waking up in the night to get a bottle. He was chewing things by then! Now that he's almost 3, he's waking in the night again--and that's normal.

well, its your call. i did, but my baby was eating all the time, and never full. if you think your baby will benefit, and maybe sleep through the night, do it! YOU are the mommy. just some advice: don't put cereal in the bottle. it confuses baby, and is a choking hazard. get one of those rubber spoons, and use just enough cereal (whether you add formula or water is on the box) to make it really runny. it should be almost a liquid. just make sure you burp the baby well before bed, cereal makes bigger burps.

also, obesity won't be an issue if you teach your kids to eat right while they are growing up, and promote physical activity.

This isn't safe, but I have read that some doctors do allow it, because of heartburn. This might work and is a safer way: buy some colic tablets and then let you child sleep in the bouncy seat or there swing. My son has had heartburn also and this is what I do. You may try a different formula. If you do try a different soy formula try only to get the organic kind. You can do a google search on the regular kind if you like.

NO! it will hurt his/her tummy & there is actually proof that it doesn't hold a baby over any longer than formula.

A baby's tummy mature's along with it's tongue. When the toungue stops oushing things out as soon as they are put in, the baby is ready to TRY cereal.

If you have to feed soilids in a bottle, that is a red flag that they are not ready.

Although rice is bland, is can cause gas, constipation, ect.. in a young baby.

HOld off until he is 4 months...better yet, 6 months- it will be a happier & less tressful experience for both of you.

No, don't start your baby on cereal until closer to four months. You need to do what is best for your baby and right now, mother's milk or formula is best. If you give you child cereal to help them sleep through the night, you're doing it for yourself, not for the child.

I've always heard 4 months, I'm a nurse and every Doc I know, would recommend holding off on cereal until 4 months.

Listen up-- Would you like to eat cereal out of a cup? Cereal is made to be fed with a spoon not a bottle! If you want your baby being stuck on a bottle longer than they are suppose to go ahead. Babies should be taught that nothing but milk comes out a bottle. That is why when they are strong enough to sit up they are ready to start trying a spoon with cereal or rice along with juice in a cup not a bottle. My baby's daddy tried to convince me that cereal in a bottle is a o k thing so i told him o k lets see. It didn't make a difference and i also noticed that he was fussier that usual. Anything other that milk, makes for a tummy ache in infants under 4 months I say that it is not safe but it is ultimately your decision

All doctors are different. I think most would believe that 4 months is the earliest to start cereal. Go with your instinct. However remember that it doesn't always help babies sleep. Some babies is seems to help but you can't rely on it completely.

Good luck!
