A lot of teachers in my school got the shower board from a hardware store and the maintenance men even put it up for them. It is pretty inexpensive. If you measure it right then you can put it right over the chalkboard and still use the chalk tray for your markers.

There's actually something that you can paint onto the chalkboard that gives it a whiteboard finish. I hear that's quite expensive. If you go to a hardware store, you can buy shower board and that ends up working like a white board. It's also the cheapest way to do it, or so I hear. Sometimes they'll cut it for free for you if you explain that you're a teacher. (I'm assuming you are.) Good luck!

dry erase board is better
at lest u dont have to touch chalk

with mylar and contact cement, you may even be able to find a more dent resistant material that will work, mylar is metal so it will ding pretty easily, but should serve the purpose.
