The sioux. They still have reservations where they teach small children about their ancestory today, right? If it still goes on today you'd have to assume that it HAD to be happening in the Civil War times...

Firstly, is that supposed to be "reservation" system? Quit calling people dumbasses when you can't even copy the question correctly from your work.

Second, when you say "civil war," are you talking American Civil War, or periods of internal civil warfare? The Maya were located in Central America, and were independant of US influence, but they did go through several internal periods of civil warfare at several times in their history. If the scope of this question is limited to the American Civil War, you can immediately dismiss the Maya from your list.

That leaves your three options; "five 'civilized' tribes," Sioux, and Nez Perces. Frankly, I find the inference (hopefully of your paper, and not your personal opinions) that only the 5 tribes listed in your addendum were civilized. EVERY Native American culture was 'civilized,' but European Colonialism put the label of "savage" on any indegeous peoples who stood in their way.

Many native societies adapted quite sucessfully to the "reservation" system, and were in full compliance with the treaties which they were often forced to agree to. Take, for example, the story of Black Hawk and the Sauk and Fox peoples. Living in their assigned "reservation," they were forced from them for no aggression.
"In 1825, thirteen Sauks and six Foxes signed another agreement re-affirming the 1804 treaty. In 1828, the U.S. government liaison, Thomas Forsyth, informed the tribes that they should begin vacating their settlements east of the Mississippi."

The term "civilized tribes" applies to tribes who made effort to conform to European ideals and standards. For that reason, you can also eliminate those "civilized tribes," as they, in fact, changed their ways from the traditional ways to conform to their conquerors.

Given that, you can focus your attention between the remaining two: Sioux and Nez Perces.

Excuse me? "THE" five civilized tribes...??? (1) Sioux (2) Navajo (3) Nez perce (4) Maya (5) ??? Been countin' long fella??
And do you propose to all the Cherokee, Blackfoot, Seneca, Delaware, and the list goes on and on WERE not civilized?? I bet you had ancestors in the 7th Cav. And I doubt very much if the US govt sent many Mayans to reservations... since they were gone before we came about.
