Because assassination has political motivations, yet murder is just murder. Assassination is murder, which can have any type of common motivation, from insanity to passion, but murder can only be assassination if its politically motivated.

So i'd assume that to be considered assasinated you will would desire to be the two an extremely well known man or woman who has solid stances politically or a human having the flexibility of political management.

I don't think it has to do with the importance of the person being killed, I think it has to do with the details in the actual killing. A Remington 700 BDL 30-06 from 900 yds. after 3 months of following a person and watching their every move until you can be sure of their whereabouts with such accuracy so that you can set up a sniping position of that caliber sounds like an assassination to me, even if it's just the milk man.

I love this question I've wondered this before. I would guess that since versace was murdered then maybe assasinate is only in politics!?

good question! I'd say the person must be a figure of some prominance and not in the entertainment field, either. Lennon was murdered, but King was assassinated. perhaps you must be in public service?

By definition, an assassin is "1. a murderer, esp. one who kills a politically prominent person for fanatical or monetary reasons." So, for a murder to be considered an assassination, the motive would have to be related to either politics or money.
