I do alot of internet, gaming, and word/excell apps. I've got an Averatec refurb right now & I hate it...something's seriously wrong inside...like it has a mind of its own--It will shut down or restart for no apparent reason, one moment it will say that such & so a file is corrupted or can't be found & the next it's fine....I'm NOT a techie, so PLEASE no techno babble (I'm sure you've all got big brains & don't need to prove it to me) I don't mind off-name brands as long as they're quality!

I would say an Acer. You should choose one of them. THEY ARE GREAT. Dell are not very good, and HP is ok. Acer ar very good!

I would recommend a dell. From my experience, they are reliable, support is great, and I still use my dell laptop that I bought 5 years ago. I also have 2 kids, was in the navy and moved around, and both of my laptops and my wife's desktop are dell. Maybe an inspiron e1705?

Check into Acer. They are very affordable and run great.
in particular look at the acer aspire 3000 (Very reasonable)

If you want a Great notebook for about 1k go with a Ferrari laptop. THEY ARE GREAT! I just bought one, cost me about 900 and it is wonderful.
