Has anyone else been to Butlins and came home early because it was crap?

I am Scottish and I married a London girl who I adore, we have 2 sons and around 1996 I took my wife and kids up to Butlins in Ayr in Scotland. I always wanted to go back after I went there as a kid with my Nan and grandfather and uncle. I enjoyed a few days of a holiday that was either to be a week or two, but one day I was running barefooted up from my chalet to the swimming pool when I tripped and fell, at the time all i had was a graze on the top part of my foot, within a day or two a hole appeared in my foot so I had to visit the local hospital. A few days later I split my thumb badly when I tried to pick up a broken bottle to put it in the bin incase someone cut theirselves with it, but I did and back to hospital and they butterflied stitched it as I was terrified of needles and wouldn't let them inject me, so that cut my holiday short as we weren't waiting for no 3.

Now in 1996 i wanted to go back to Butlins in Ayr to relive the memories I had with my Nan and Grandad. I Hired 2 chalets as my sister who is Scottish and married my wifes brother and also lived in Essex England where I still live, also wanted to go to Butlins. When we arrived the place looked alot different than what I remembered as a kid, when we got into our chalet, we wern't there 5 minutes when we filled a list of complaints, there was poop on bed sheets, so they weren't changed, I wouldn't have let my dog lie on that bed, god knows what was living on it.
The carpets weren't hoovered, furniture was filthy, toilet well I though crabs lived in the sea.
I complained along with my wifes brother as theirs were just as bad. We were moved to another chalet about 3 hours later, they looked fine untill we had a storm and we started to get water in the bedroom also the scottish alkis above us up to 4 am shouting and swearing and shouting out hey wullie geeza wee song so at all bloody hours we got hyedaehoo, hydaehoe they didn't know any bloody words.
In the morning my sister knocked on our door and said do we want to come shopping to buy wellies? I said what the hell for? she took me in to her chalet and showed me her bedroom, I think this is where they moved the swimming pool to as the whole room was flooded.
Back up to complain, and all we got was a bloody wet vac and do it ourselves. Next prob was we spent most time putting money into our electric meters as we had to heat the place up as it was bloody perrishing. Enough was enough we kicked up hell and eventually we got caravans each, which were bloody colder, dirty, things moving in the beds and it wasn't us, so less than 1 week into a 2 week holiday we had enough after all the problems with the accomidation and the entertanement dept was full of thugs and druggies, we left and drove back to Essex. Butlins didn't give 2 hoots I complained non stop but it went through empty ears. Never again.

I booked a 7 day holiday and came home after a few days because my Chalet was crawling with ants. Butlins used to cater for EVERYONE young and old, but now only cater for young families

I must admit I didn't really enjoy it. Didn't come home early but only stayed one night anyway!

Seemed a bit commercially orientated and the food selection was all pretty unhealthy and uninspiring

I went when I was about 10 years old and thought it was great! Looking back it was really bad and my dad hated it. I think it is great for little kids but after that you would have to be seriously mentally disturbed to enjoy a holiday there.

used to go there when i was a kid and i hated it. never came home early though.
