Fairfax/Loudoun County, VA

A brand new townhome costs 550K in Fairfax County and a SFH costs approx 700K. Loudoun county might be 75k less on townhomes and 100K less on SFH.

How much will/can a person save if he does it all himself assuming he doesnt run into any glitches?

Are you my father in law??? He is building on the water down there. He lives in NJ and hired a local contractor. He wishes that he never did it!!! It has been 2 year since he signed the contract and the windows have finally been installed. His contractor is consitered one of the BEST in the area. If you do build, have your lawyer write the contract, it is the only way.

Depends how much time and money you have. We have built our last 2 homes and there is always something we would have done different. Will do it again too. The process will not go as fast or a smoothly as you want but will be helped greatly if you are familiar with the building trades - know something of construction and will be doing some work yourself. You can't just wait till you get off work at the end of the day to find that the plumber that promised to show first thing in the morning - didn't.

Have you considered a manufactured home (we call them modulars) you just have to have them delivered. That's what alot of people in our area are doing due to the headaches of dealing with builders and having excuse after excuse and not options.

If you do it all yourself, (not the actual work but the project management) you may be able to save as much as 25%

You should do it as soon as you can. Soon there will be no land left to buy. We just bought 25 acres and have never been happier.

It definitely is, no one can come and put you out for any reason because it is legally yours.
