Any soap and water combination is fine. Some soaps, like deodorant soaps or those with strong perfumes, may be irritating. Mild soaps like Ivory or soaps for sensitive skin work well. Just rinse well.
There is nothing wrong with douching, it's just not necessary most of the time. The reason you don't need to douche frequently is that most preparations will wash out the natural bacteria found in the vagina. This protects you somewhat from yeast, etc. If you want to douche or feel you need to use a vinegar/water type. It will keep the natural pH of the vagina intact and doesn't irritate.

Strong soaps would probably be bad. I grew up with Lava, WOW, not good. But for 50 years I have always used regular soap that you shower and bathe with. The key is not the soap, it is a thorough rinsing. I personally use baby wipes several times a day after going peep. That works quite nicely.

Dove and Irish Spring. I would say Dove is the best though, because hardly anyone is allergic to it and it leaves a clean, fresh, scent, that lingers after you get out of the bath/shower. Dove is also good for uses to keep blemishes off of your face. Dove is like my best friend. lol Also, for blemishes, they make a Dove soap that has seeds in it. That's also good for "down there", aswell. I have a sensitive "private" area. So, I would know this kind of stuff. If you have any questions or anything, feel free to contact me, hun.

Check Burt's n' Bees. Or Pure Rose Oil Soap. My Mom's an M.D. and that's her suggesstion. On this douche thing. My doctor told me I could do it as much as I wanted. It's Ph balanced and who wants to stink for any reason? All this douche hype is just that. And this physician I had won number one OB/GYN for California four years running. He's doing something right. And my Mother douches, too. I figure we brush our teeth with paste that's approved. Douche problems are a myth. Even the box says to do it anytime and they wouldn't say it for fear of lawsuits.

Always use something mild, not harsh or too perfumed to decrease chance of irritation. There's nothing worse than irritated private parts.
I use dove sensitive skin bar all over except my face. It's unscented and soap free.

Citizen, what are you doing here???
Anyway, just use the same soap you use for the rest of you (Dove is love), or if you REALLY wanna get clean, I heard about Vagisil.
Don't ask me how to use it; I'm guessing some sort of turkey baster thing comes with it.

Normally warm water is enough. On hot or special-needs days, just use a mild soap on the outside, perferrably with moisturizer, not scented.

You can really use any bath soap you want, as long as you don't get any inside. I use whatever we have on hand (usually Lever 2000 or Dial) and so far I haven't had any problems. I'm 30.

I would suggest for your private parts (or vaginal area) to use Summer's Eve Feminine wash and its for external areas only. I have been using for the past 10 years and it works great. They also have a version for sensitive skin too. I hope this helps.
