I am a hugh YANKEE fan but dont you think Justin Morneau should get it? I got mad love for Jeter but w/o Morneau the Twins would be in trouble.

Morneau has been vital to Minnesota’s playoff run. Day in, and day out, for the entire season, he has helped produce wins, or has single handedly won games.

In the Yankees line-up, with a large number of players that demand to be pitched around, Jeter is not an offensive player pitchers fear enough to pitch around, therefore providing many more opportunities to boost his average.

Morneau, however, bats in a lineup where he is the offensive threat that is most often pitched around.

Dye deals with a juiced lineup similar to Jeter, but his team may not make the playoffs, after winning the World Series with essentially the same team. His improved statistics over last year have had little, to no, positive effect on the White Sox’s record.

If the White Sox and the Red Sox miss the playoffs a year after being there, when Dye and Ortiz have better statistical years than the year before, their contributions to the team are not as significant, and therefore not as valuable, as other aspects of the teams performance. In short, their great years were not that valuable to their team’s success.

With or without Jeter and Dye in their team’s respective lineups, the Yankees and White Sox have no problem putting up great offensive numbers and winning games. They are having great years, but unfortunately for them, and perhaps David Ortiz, it is the other players on your team, and their contributions, that define how valuable a single player is to a team.

Every year Minnesota is seen as an underdog team, and I think Morneau's contributions, when viewed in the context of the Twins lineup, outweigh those of Dye, Jeter, and Ortiz.

This isn't to take away from what Justin Morneau, Frank Thomas and Jermaine Dye have done this season, but it is without question that the Yankees would not be in the position they are now (and may never have won a World Series post-1996) without Derek Jeter or Mariano Rivera. This has been Jeter's best offensive year (and most of the sports writers are number-happy), so it's his best shot at winning the MVP award.

it is to early to tell, you have to wait and see where the teams fall.
Derek Jeter should be only because with all the injuries, he raised his level!! If he goes out with a bang in the last ten games and the M&M boys from the twins squeak in then everything changes!! If the season ended today, Justin Morneau would have made the biggest impact, just for last night!!

Morneau or Santana. Santana won't get it because it never goes to pitchers but should because he is unstoppable. Jeter has a lineup around him where any one of them could start on just about any team. He's put in good situations due to the types of hitters that around him year after year. Morneau is having a career year. Dye wont' get it either because his team won't make the playoffs. Ortiz won't either. Honestly who cares if you've hit more home runs that anybody, your average is .100 lower than everybody else and you're a DH. He doesn't deserve it.

i think what u said is true. i am also a yankees fan, but the yanks probably still would have made the playoffs without DJ. the twins would be in no mans land without morneau solid clutch #s this year. some could even make a case for santana as mvp, but he will win the cy hands down

I would give it to Jeter. Although Morneau has a 4 point lead for the batting title, Jeter leads in:

Runs, RBI's, HR's, SB's, Hits, BA with RISP and extra base hits. He's the team captain and more valuable to his team then Morneau.
