I just started a job about a month ago in a different avenue of the field that I have almost 20 years experience in. I took the position because I did not realize that the mileage and travel times would be so high and make my life so much more stressed than I think that the one closer to my house would. I can still accept the position closer to home at 2.69 less per hour, is it worth it to travel 50 miles less a day and save 2 1/2 hours and tolls? Please help.
Also the closer to home position is exactly what I am experienced and comfortable with. PLEASE HELP

yes your health and well being are priceless and when you add up wear and tear on your car, plus gas prices and commute times 2.69 an hour less may be a savings

Travel doesn't matter as long you are comfortable with the job.
The main thing is whether you are comfortable with the superiors and colleagues over there. If you enjoy the current job, just stick with it.

If you dont like the job, then you shift to the other job. Trvelling 25 up and 25 down should not be a big deal unless you enjoy the job. If you think that your travel expenses are eating a major amount of salary, then you can also shift to the job near to your home, since you save a major amount of money.

If you take the job closer to home your saving all that gas and toll so technically your probly making the same amount of money even though the job closer to home pays less. Saving time money and not being stressed is worth the lower salary. Your comfort is key.

Great question. Urban sprawl has forced many to take residence further away from great jobs. Commuting vs. Quality of Life. You should see an accountant about the benefits of writing off your car/expenses/mileage...you may be eligible for a large tax break.
But, quality of life is super important and long drives and car repairs get old pretty quick. In my case, my wife does the long commute for the advancement opportunities. She could get a job closer but the ability to move in her career would be slim compared with her big commute job. We also use her commute expenses as a write off so for us, it is what is best for our long term goals. You have to way the two jobs with your long term goals and then make a decision.

Is 100 bucks a week worth 12 and a half hours of your time? You decide.

I think you answered the question. Take the job you feel most comfortable doing. The money will come but your sanity is important right now.
Good luck.

Its a fair drop in pay but ultimately if your happier then it would be worth it! As long as you can live comfortably on the rate then i would go for it!
