Formal is more dressy or more business oriented. Such as a suit and tie for a man and a skirt and jacket for a woman. Casual is more laid back. Jeans and a t shirt, or business casual is usually Dockers and a polo shirt.

Basically casual clothes are shirts polos jeans something u can wear everyday, mostly daywear comfortable refer to brands: Tommy Hilfiger or Emporio Armani. Casual wear comes between sportswear and formal wear.
As for Formal its more elegant more classic things u wear at the office or a reception like a suit for men with a tie or a simple black dress for women. refer to Calvin Klein. Formal come between Casual wear and Evening wear.

If you're talking about the workplace, casual means no tie or suit jacket necessary, maybe khaki pants are okay, and women can wear flats, ponytails, and less dressy slacks and tops. Business casual means nothing less than button-down clothing, but ties aren't necessary. If you mean in a non-workplace setting, casual means informal wear such as jeans, formal means a suit and tie or tuxedo ("black tie" usually means wear a tux,) or a dress or dress pantsuit for women.

well, for a party, formal is long dress, or full suit. high class. (especially black tie, it doesnt get more fancy) casual is comfortable clothing that looks good, like high quality jeans and a nice sweater, or a pretty skirt with a plainer top. casual is more of what you'd normally wear anyway, just the nicer pieces.

if you were asked to dress formally for work wear slacks, jacket, heels, and a nice shirt. (or for men wear a suit and tie)
if you were asked to dress casually for work wear kahki's and a button up or a polo shirt
if you were asked to dress formally for a wedding or something of that nature, make it a nice dress, wear heels and make sure your purse matches (or for men suit and tie)
if you were asked to dress casually for a wedding or something of that nature, make it a more casual dress something cotton maybe and sandals or flats, but it still should be a dress. (or for men business casual will work)
if it is just a standard event casual is just jeans and a t-shirt
