I took a HPT today and got an immediate positive result, but the line was lighter than the other one. I was planning on taking another test in a few days, but a coworker said she got negative pregnancy tests for three months because she was drinking so much water. I had never heard of that. Since I want to take another test in a few days, I am thinking I shouldn't drink too much water.

Pregnancy tests pick up the Hcg hormone that is expelled from the blood into the urine. Drinking too much water will produce more urine, and the concentration of Hcg in the urine will be less, possible too weak to show a positive on a pregnancy test. Pregnancy tests will show a better chance of showing a positive with the first urine of the day, when the Hcg has had a chance to build up in the urine overnight, that is why pregnancy test instructions state to test first thing after waking up in the morning.

Take the test first thing in the morning when you get out of bed.
That is when the hormone levels are at their highest.

If the second line was there, even if it's faint, it's a positive result, but if you want to take another test just to confirm, do it in the morning!

Another reason it could be faint is depending on how far along you are. I KNEW in my gut I was pregnant and tested and got a positive result on the very first day of my first missed period but the line was light.

A couple of weeks later I was being silly after I had confirmed at the dr. thatI was pregnant and took another one and got a nice solid line.

Congratulations!

I dont think this is true. It would make the test come out lighter looking. I would take the test when you wake up in the morning. The preg hormones show up better.
