How do we counteract religious fanaticism?

Question

Sad as I am to admit it, I think nationalism is the only method of fostering a unity within the British Isles that can counteract religious fanatiscism? Or is it possible to continue our current political and social state without terrorist attacks becomming intolerable? Should right-wing policies becomes a part of mainstream British politics before the far-right and the BNP (and in effect, nationalist extremists) gain greater support? What do you guys think?

I hold a first class honours degree in history and politics. I am not crazy and, as you would expect, I have read my fair share of history. I am more than aware of the repercussions of nationalism and of terrorism.

My question did not stress my personal opinion but rather asked for yours. Please read the question fully and do not instil your own prejudices and opinions into it, save that for your answer. Thanks

I see where you're going and as I am a Christian, I can only say, False Religions are the extremists, they are taking over our once proud Christian country, which was founded on the Christian Faith. I don't class myself as religious because Christianity is not a religion, but a way of life.

You just have to take this point and experience the Truth by asking Christ into your life. The Holy Spirit will reveal everything to you. He will give you wisdom and understanding to know within yourself what is right and what is wrong. Now I'm no Bible thumping Christian, I have many interests and a lovely family, but I know I need God in my life because when I was serving in the Army I had some near death experiences. However, the Lord Jesus Christ protected me when I should have been dead by now and I doin't fear death, because I know I will be with the Lord in Heaven.

Britain has to stop this Muslim epidemic spreading, and for once stand up and stop them preaching hatred and follow our cultures, our Christian Faith or "When In Rome, Do As The Romans Do"......Not when in Britain ....do as the Muslims do....!

Excellent question! The only way to stop these fanatics is by not giving them a reason to be so!! how? stop the western occupation of some Muslim countries, stop the west stealing these countries wealth, stop the west supporting dictators in the middle east who are not different than Saddam the fact the western media is not talking about them is because they are working for the US (Egypt, Saudi, Jordan, Libya, ...) stop the west supporting an evil state that is killing civilians daily in Palestine and Lebanon,.....The problem the western society can not see these facts. Mr Blair is very intelligent and he knows these facts more than any of us but he prefers to secure his future and his retirement plans!

I am sorry to say that the only policies the BNP have is the race card.
As I called them BMP in a question put by Shizzle earlier today I forgot to say why, it stands for British Machiavellian Party,
dictionary say it means "unprincipled, crafty and opportunist"

We should think of another way to handle the religious fanatics but not a Nazi state please. Say No to BNP (BMP)

Those individuals that walk around, and holding signs like "Islam will dominate the world" and "Europe you better learn a lesson from 9/11 or else...", need to be thrown out of the country right away!
Those who voice their radical ideas on TV in Britain have to be thrown out of the country right away!
This is time for democracy to suffer a little bit, but it must be done.
Europe is going down the tubes quickly.
Over the last 10 years I've bee to Europe at least a dozen times, and every time I see more and more muslims. And seems like every time their faces become more and more hateful.

all the far right poicies are going to do is incite more terrorist attacks. We need a concerted effort to show up the BNP etc as no different to the Nazis we fought during WW2.

Instead we should look at why we are a target, our links with Bush have contributed for sure but our siding with the Israelies is a much bigger reason. People wont blow themselves up unless they think they have a real legit reason to. Lets pull out of the middle east and condem israel for their treatment of the palestinians.

The only solution is make fanatics afraid and that involves draconian sentencing stop allowing them to intimidate give police power of immediate detention under a law we have in Scotland called mobbing and rioting ,another good law is breach of the peace which covers causing fear and alarm and also use the threat of extradition,repatriation ,passport withdrawal, loss of benefits and withdrawal of charitable status for mosques ,youll hear the mullahs and imams squeal when you put your hand in their pocket and take their ill gotten gains.

I don't think we need nationalism to counteract fanaticism, just educating people in critical thinking. However before you vote BNP remember that they are Christian Nationalist Extremists.

a political party can only gain support if people agree with them. It is freedom of speech, democracy. Why would you want to change that?

I`d love to see these muslim nutters go to China and "try" to parade through their streets with placards proclaiming death to the Chinese leaders for not supporting Islam!!!
They`d last about 15 seconds before either being shot dead or disappearing in the middle of the night - never to be seen again.
