I am not a USC fan - but has there been a better running back tandem statisticly than Reggie Bush and Lendale White? Please point to your sources and thanks for your help. I am trying to prove a friend wrong.

Craig James and Eric Dickerson at SMU in 1980 or so. They were known as the "Pony Express". We all know about Dickerson's success in the NFL. Here's something about James from Wikepedia: In the 1980 Holiday Bowl, James' offensive production of 225 rushing yards and 9.9 yards/carry were both Holiday Bowl records that stood for 13 and 15 years respectively.[1] In 1982, he scored on a 96-yard touchdown reception to set a new record as the longest scoring play in Southwest Conference history.[2].

James later joined the New England Patiots. Also from Wikipedia: He was named Offensive Player of the Year by the Vince Lombardi Committee in 1985 and started in both the 1985 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl XX. In the 1985–86 season, James rushed for 1,227 yards, becoming the last white player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

Let me justify this, I say Pat White and Steve Slaton. I don't say this because I'm a WVU fan, Im not I'm from NY I could care less how the Mountaineers do. Also I know Pat White is a quarterback, but when you put up 1000 yrds on the ground I think you can be considered as part of a Running back tendem. So here's the proof. Last yr both were "FRESHMAN" and they both put up over 1000 yrds, I know maybe they didn't have the Monster numbers that others have had, but 1st they were Freshman, 2nd Slaton didnt even start the whole yr and they didnt have a supporting cast that Bush and Lendalle had. They put up these #s against stingy defenses like V tech and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Already Slaton as a Sophmore is putting up bigger #'s than Bush, and he doesn't get an overwhelming amount of carries, he's usually on the bench after the 3rd quarter, his yrds per carry are ridiculous, and if White wants to run no one can stop him. You might say the Big East is week, but they do have as many teams in National Title contention as the Big 12 and Pac 10 put together.

Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown at Auburn weren't too shabby, but I'd go with the Pony Express, Dickerson and James at SMU.

No clue how they match up statistically but I liked Eric Dickerson & Craig James from SMU back in the early '80's.

Players from differant eras are hard to compare. The most famous are Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard from the Army teams of the 40's.

Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown from Auburn. Both were top ten draft picks in the 2005 draft.

what about those two from Minnesota a few years back, Maroney and Barber III? I don't know their numbers but they were both 1200 yard rushers and were easily the MVPs of the team.
