Schools block sites to protect their students, there are a lot of cults out there that can be negative and prey on children and teens specifically, the school cannot be held responsible for any of their students getting into dangerous situations. There are also other factors such as issues regarding politics within schools where religion in schools can be a very delicate subject. Another example is that Wicca itself does involve ritual untidy and sex, although these are not negative things parents may not like their children learning about such things, it also means Wicca can attract people who will misrepresent themselves to prey on children and the more venerable within society.

Cults are not necessarily bad, at one point Christianity was a cult, but cult does carry negative connotations because there are bad examples of cults and this is emphasised in the media – for example when most people think of cults they think of cases such as Peoples Temple which resulted in mass murder/suicide.

Although Wicca is more accurately described as a priesthood as within Wicca there are no laity only priests and priestesses, it can also be considered a cult. A cult is a small religious grouping with a charismatic leader – Wicca is oath-bound, initiate-only path that requires lineage back to it's founders, so this means it grows relatively slowly keeping it as a small religious grouping, and it's founder was Gerald Gardner who could easily be described as 'charismatic'. Wicca is not evil or negative itself, people who run your school may personally have issues with Wicca, however this is not about your school stopping you from learning about Pagan religions it is actually about your school trying to protect you and itself.

Cults, true cults, are very dangerous.

Every cult can be defined as a group having all of the following five characteristics:

1. It uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate and retain its members
2. It forms an elitist totalitarian society.
3. Its founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, not accountable and has charisma.
4. It believes 'the end justifies the means' in order to solicit funds & recruit people.
5. Its wealth does not benefit its members or society.

Are Cults Harmful?

To remain within the strict mental and social confines of a cult for even a short time can have the following disastrous effects:

Loss of choice and free will. Diminished intellectual ability, vocabulary and sense of humor. Reduced use of irony, abstractions and metaphors. Reduced capacity to form flexible and intimate relationships. Poor judgment. Physical deterioration. Malnutrition. Hallucinations, panic, dissociation, guilt, identity diffusion and paranoia. Neurotic, psychotic or suicidal tendencies.

They don't want people going onto cult sites...also, they want to keep religion in the schools down to a minimum.

wicca is not a religion.

and schools block cult sites because they have to.

if your kid came home saying he wanted to be a white supremacist because he read all about the kkk at school and thinks it's super cool, you'd be pissed, right? besides, cult sites have nothing positive or educational to offer to kids.
