In the rap group De la Soul's song "It's like that" one of the trio raps...
"It's like, who would of thought
If you would of bought
Into my religion you'd be more like God
But you were steady swimming so you more like cod
See these fools is fish scale, converting to ishmael"

Is he making a reference to himself being a christian or muslim or his he criticizing both religions...i've been having this discussion with a couple of friends of mine and i think that he's criticizing both religions...tell me what you think serious answers please!!!

The idea of "buying into a religion" is offensive and meant to accuse people of buying their way into heaven. Those who belive that having money equates with Godliness are mindless, just as fish are. The idea of being drawn into the religion of Islam is probably not what they meant, but for practical syllable count they used it. I think the idea was to condemn those who follow Ishmael's line.

Yes, I think this is a poor excuse for a Christian promotion lyric.

He's criticizing someone for being non-religious. But I think there's a dig at people who convert to Islam too.

I think their saying that once you pick a religion you should stick to it and not jump on everyone else's bandwagon. Don't let one religion interfere with another.

I hope this helps you. Good luck!
