Sounds like they *probably* just hacked the website...but if they could hack it, they could put DANGEROUS SCRIPTS on it, too...including one that could download a virus or spyware.
Always use antivirus and firewall, and don't visit the site for a while (give them time to fix it). If that's a personal site that doesn't get visited often, that could be a while! Look up the whois information to see who owns it and if the admin's email address is on file...if so, you could warn the person in case they haven't checked out their site lately.
Always have antivirus and firewall running. When you have to do something like de-fragment your hard disk, shut off your modem completely before you shut off your firewall and av.
There are some great anti-phishing and anti-spyware toolbars, but * ALWAYS INVESTIGATE TOOLBAR NAMES ON GOOGLE *...by their very nature, toolbars written by *bad* people can be a haven for viruses, spyware, and adware also. One bad toolbar I can think of is the "Alexa" toolbar.

It was hacked or they changed the main page to say hacked by x. Your computer is fine, if other sites are okay. That website is on a remote server and your computer would not be affected by any changes made to a remote web site. If all web pages you go to say hacked by x, you are in trouble.

It definitely means that you need to change your password. However, before you do that, go into your account profiles details and where it says" Do you want others to know when you are online?" Click "No". Hackers use this to find out when you are on and can piggy back everywhere you visit on the Net. After you have done this, then create a new password.

The site has been hacked...this shouldn't affect you unless you download something from it now or the hacker set up a malicious script. If you have spyware and virus scanners, you should be fine. If you know the webmaster's email address, contact him/her and let them know their site has been hacked.
