The actual power output isn't much higher in the generic one, so it should be alright. Power is Voltage times Current. (65 Watts vs 58 Watts). The internal computer will have a voltage stepper and a surge protector for when it runs off the cable, which should be good enough.

You won't blow out the computer right away if you're worried. If you turn it on, and nothing happens, unplug the cable and find the right cable.

Still though, keep an eye out for a power supply that more closely matches the factory settings. It will probably be better in the long run.

At 3 years old, you probably are going to need new batteries, as well.

i wouldn't use a generic ac adaptor... there's a good chance you'll burn out the dc jack inside or possible toast the motherboard... you can find replacement ac adaptors really cheap on ebay. just do a search using the laptop model number. that's how the company i work for purchases new adaptors for laptop repairs and refurbishments.

I wouldn't advise it, to be honest. Supplying something with a higher voltage than it is designed for is rarely a good idea.
