Eventually, my husband & I will be moving to Arizona from Florida and will be driving. I have 3 dachshunds & 2 cats. I am not worried on containment of the pets but am more concerned with the stress on my cats, the dogs will be fine. I will need something to calm the cats for at least 2 or 3 days, however long it will take us to get there. My question is, has anyone traveled a significant distance with cats and what do you recommend that would make it less stressful for them? I would think the vet would give me some type of tranquilizer but I don't know if they will give me enough so that I can give them more while traveling if needed. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Your cats will be just find while traveling. Tell your Vet about the trip, and he/she will give you small tabs (Ace) to last for a number of days. You only want to give them enough to take the edge off, but not to put them to sleep. If you are stopping at nights in a motel, make sure you take their litter box, dishes and any toys they must play with now. My cats take it in stride now. We travel back and forth to Florida every month and when we get there, they recognize that house, and when we get home, they are happy.

If you have a vet who sees your pets regularly, they should give you traquilizers. I brought my daughter's cat from PA to FL on a plane & got one for that. When I moved to FL from PA we drove with two dogs & they were fine.
