Dust Devil sell one that does not use a bag and is around $40. We bought one and it cleans as good as a Kirby or one of the high priced ones. The instructions say to replace the filter every six months. I just blow it out with compressed air, then it is like new again. I do this everytime I dump the canister, whick is after every use. It is real easy to do and you don't mess with bags.

As a housekeeper, I have used a TON of different types of vacuums.

I have found that the dyson didn't have the different carpet levels and seemed to not pick up lint and strings very good - however it did have great suction with the hose attachment.

The Oreck is my least favorite. The suction is horrible and it doesn't have any hoses or attachments. Nor does it pick up lint or strings very well. I would finally give up and pick them up by hand.

The Kerby is heavy. The attachments are hard to carry around and are never there when you them them. The suction is pretty good with this vacuum, but overall it's more of a pain in the back.

The electrolux (sp?) was overall a good vacuum, however I didn't like how they rolled behind me when I was vacuuming. I was always fighting with the canister, and I also kept running into electrical connection problems in the handle.

And... Any of the new bagless vacuums are not worth the trouble! There will always be dust on your vacuum (which is a sign of leaks). Also, when you dump the dirt, it is VERY messy! The filters have to be cleaned every time (mostly on the cheaper models)... and THAT is messy! I would much rather deal with a clean bag every 6 weeks or so!

One of my second favorites oddly enough is the Rainbow. It doesn't use a bag, but rather water as the filter. The system is great for those with allergies and animal hair everywhere. The suction is GREAT because you are never fighting with dirty filters. The attachments are pretty easy to use, however, I don't like having to empty the dirty water after each use. Plus, these vacuums are not cheap. However the price, I doubt you'll ever have to buy another vacuum again!

My favorite: Kenmore Progressive Canister. All the tools are right there for easy convience. The beater head removes easy for quick corner cleaning. The newer models have a light on the head and also on the tube. Very handy! Having that light is very handy when you need to get into the dark corners. The beater has an auto shut off incase you run over a sock - that way your don't burn a belt. You can also get Hepa-filter bags for those of you who have allergies! The suction is REALLY great! This vacuum cleaner can be used on either carpeting or floor and can accommodate high, medium, low or xtra low carpeting pile. It has a three-way on-off switch, a quick-release pedal. I also love the retractable cord. It has an edge cleaner, suction control, and overload protector on the Power Mate.

These Kenmore vacuums are sold at SEARS. The Newer Models price around $400 +

Here is what it comes with:

Hose assembly
2 wand assemblies (upper & lower)
1 floor brush
1 crevice tool
1 fabric brush
1 dusting brush
1 Power-Mate

Im a clean nut...

WIthout a lot of money

I have found recently a Eureka Vacume,..Bagless

Its called the Eureka Easy Clean and comes with a nice duster as well all attatchments and man does it work

Puts the dirt devel to shame!

I hate bagless but this ones is simple and great
has a washable filter and hepa as well

I got ours at Menards which is like a home Depot for 65.00
No kidding

Here is a link

http://www.eureka.com/products/upright/2996avz/2996avz.jsp

It shows a red one but mine is all grey..so not sure if they are changing models or what...but it seems the same in all other ways...

Be careful though Eureka has many similar models out there all are mosre costly than this one.. I have a firend who has the more expensive one and it does not do as good a job as mine!! HA

You would not believe the stuff it pulled up out of the rug, and I vacuum daily before with my Dirt Devil... I guess it was doing a bad job.... I am hard to impress on vacuums as I very picky and I was very impressed.

Good Luck

i offered a low-priced little Bissel upright 2 years in the past for $70. It has worked merely high quality on my carpeting even with pets. No harm downs. It has a disposable filter out- no hepa. The attachments are all i choose. it is particularly gentle weight and straight forward to look after. i'm by using spending huge dollars on vacuum cleaners.

I don't know what not a lot of money is to you but here are my suggestions Dyson (the best), Fhantom Fury, Dirt Devil Swivle and Oreck.
