There were blacks that owned slaves in the USA, before it was abolished. Would their decendents also be eligible for reparations? What about those born free, and never had to be a slave?

I see you have studied some history of slavery in America. Did you also know that these same black slave owners did not beat their slaves and sometimes freed them before white slave owners and auctioneers took them and their slaves away?
Supposed reparations are not solely for the free labor African slaves were forced to give to America. More importantly it is for the ATROCITIES COMMITTED TO THESE HUMAN BEINGS! In addition to their descendants enduring the most unfair and injust treatment in American History. Resulting in generations of African Americans depressed, destitute and dead.
Of course those that advocated slavery and the repression of African Americans have and would resort to any trick to cover the despicable truth of African slaves and their descendants. No matter that all those descendants of slave owners and immigrants prosper today as a result of their toil and blood.
Therefore I would tend to agree with those previous answers given.

If anything, and it's doubtful there will be, is paid to blacks for their having been enslaved, it will not be reparations. Reparations are to RE-pay people or governments for losses incurred as a result of war or occupation by an aggressor nation, provided they lose the war. Blacks indeed lost their freedom, but their was no material loss involved on which to base a total figure for calculating reparations. And, if there's no total figure that can be set, you're talking about a never ending allowance to be paid to every black child born for the rest of time to come.

I think the whole concept of reparations is assinine. Are they going to give the land they stole from the indians back? People need to get over themselves and realize the people alive today have never been nor owned slaves for the most part. It was a sad page in american history, but history is what it is.

the idea of reparations is ridiculous. The government has apologized a thousand times over. Besides, you don't see the native americans demanding reparations.... But anyways, there should be no reparations. That would create a bitterness and resentment among people today who are paying for what their ancestors did.

I don't believe this will ever happen and the joke of it all is if it did it would come out of the taxpayers pockets and a lot of those that would get it will be paying! Besides, if you look at statistics we are already giving a lot of those eligiable slaves regardless of race reparations in the form of welfare!!

I hope this never happens, none of us were the ones who owned slaves and it will just further divide the country , not make us closer. I say let sleeping dogs lie, we have a war, hurricane victims and a whole mess of other things to pay for now.
