First, where did you find this 'fact' that conservatives think addiction to one substance is better? Can you substantiate your accusation, or did you just make it up like a good liberal does? And why do you people start out with some assumption (generally false) about what we supposedly think?
There is a big difference between legal and illegal drugs, per se. Because you can get addicted to legal drugs while using them legally. You cannot get addicted to illegal drugs while using them legally, because you can't use them legally. But just being addicted is not a crime. So I'm not sure how your argument follows any logical path.
I'm not sure why you believe that we somehow think addiction deserves jail, because people are not in jail just because they're addicted - to be in jail you have to have broken the law. Possession, DUI, etc.
Now, if someone was illegally obtaining Oxycontin and the DA was able to prove that, then that would definitely merit punishment.

Well, quite a few time they blur out the genuine purchasers, but I get what you are pronouncing. I mean, the entire factor is a documentary in hopes of getting these individuals help so they are able to show probably the most not-so-glamorous aspects of the problem. But, I do not know how things are the place you are living, but right here each person is aware of who the buyers are (together with the cops) and nothing is ever finished.

Being addicted to any drug is a crock.Yes your body may crave the drug, but you dont have to give in.You are weak.Oh and its the same thing with weed and alcohol.
Alcohol is by far worse for you yet its legal, weed is the lesser of two evils and is illegal.

Personally I think all first offense drug charges need to to be addressed with treatment and possibly jail time depending on the seriousness and if there were other crimes.
Second offenses and distribution should not.

It is only legal if prescribed by a physician, so really the people addicted to legal" drugs are addicted by the hand of their doctors.

To get an educated answer to this question you will need a pharmacist. So this question to the lay person is ridiculous.
