Now & then, I've been getting the message when starting the PC up that "one of your disk needs checking for consistency" & then it scans taking little long time.

I'm on Windows XP & has FAT32 partition.

Should the message worry me or should it simply be ignored ???

Check the disk. Click start > my computer > right click on the hard drive (probably C:). In the menu that appears click properties > tools tab > check now. Check mark both options and click start. You'll probably get a prompt saying it can't run because the drive is in use, do you want to run the scan at next start up. Say yes and reboot the computer. The error checking scan will begin. Be patient because it could take more than an hour. Oh yeah, make sure you have your install disk handy because if any bad files are found, you'll need it.

Force xp to check your drive for bad sectors, go to my computer, right click C, properties, Tools tab, Press on the error checking button, select the 2 check box, and press OK, reboot and let it go.. it's going to take about 30-60 minutes depending on the size of your drive.

I would strongly advise that you convert your drive in NTFS, the file system is much more reliable then FAT32.. if you need help to do this, just say so.

If it keeps coming up even after scanning over and over, you might have a hard drive going bad. Back up your data ASAP and look into getting a new hard drive.
