Yes, they do!!

"White Pekin ducks are the most popular meat duck in the United States reaching a market weight at 7 pounds in 8 weeks.
The breed originated in China and was brought to the United States in the 1870s. Ducks are very versatile and live happily
under a wide variety of climatic conditions. Virtually everything from feathers to feet, including the liver and tongue, can be
turned into a profit; the only unusable thing about them is their quack."

Also, from the same article:

"A distinctive characteristic of birds is the absence of lips and teeth. Instead, the bird has a hard beak that can be used for grasping, tearing, and scooping food. The digestive system works very efficiently in handling various types of food materials. The tongue contains the hyoid bone hinge at the lower jaw, and is pointed at the anterior tip with several barbed points projecting posteriorly on each side. Since the bird cannot swallow, the tongue moves back and forth forcing food down the esophagus.
There are a few saliva glands in the mouth that contribute some moisture to the feed at this point."

Hope this helps!

Too Funny you guys!

YES,, Ducks have tongues... they are pink and soft and bumpy like ours.. only a light pink...not the red human tongues are.

I not only work with urban and wild ducks but we have some ourselves and I personally have had my hands or fingers in plenty of duck mouths over the years! :)

Now they do not move the tongues around like we can.. they can not lick their bills like we can lick our lips... but they are not hard they are soft tissue.

Also many folks don't know that ducks lower bill is not solid as the upper bill that you easily see.

It is almost like a hard outline then the other part of it is soft.

Ducks also have a small hooked area at the end of thier top bill area to help them shovel mud looking for food off bottoms of ponds, rivers etc...

They have claws on thier feet, and they lose and replace thier feathers fully one time per year ( molting)in summer. During this they are relatively flightless as they can not fly off until they grow back in the flight feathers they need. It takes about 6 weeks from start to finish. They do also have a partial molt during the year but do not lose flight feathers and its only to provide different plumage for mating season a bit.

If you need more info on ducks.. please post again and I will answer ... We know duckies well here.

Also a good place ot go to ask questions would be
Ducks Unlimited...
Yes I know they hunt ducks... but they also do great conservation work and they have waterfowl Biologists ( scientists who works with ducks/geese) on staff.

Here is one more tid bit... the average duck.. poops every 10-15 minutes ... 24 hours a day. So on average 4-5 times per hour..PER duck....

It can vary with diet and each bird of course but that is an average.... That's a lot of poop!

Good Luck on your report
