Is it possible for teens and kids to get breast cancer?

The youngest patient I have personally treated with a "typical" breast cancer was 19 ( I've treated about two thousand patients with BC ). It can happen, but is very rare at that age. Here are the odds of developing BC for women in the US.

By age 30 1 : 2,212
By age 40 1 : 235
By age 50 1 : 54
By age 60 1 : 23
By age 70 1 : 14
By age 80 1 : 10
Ever 1 : 8

We sometimes see "adult tumors" develop earlier than normal in teens who have been previously treated for a different type of tumor.

It is very rare for a teen or a child to get breast cancer. If you feel a lump please show it to your mom. Most young women get a tumor called a fibroadnoma which are not cancerous.
