I've heard that any contract has a cancellation period that you can exercise even if it's not explicitly stated. I'm not sure if this is certain state laws, federal laws or just untrue.

Some states (this was the subject of a recent Y! Question and I looked it up) have a 3-day period for certain consumer contracts. There is a 3-day cancellation period under European Union law for doorstep contracts in Europe.

So: it all depends.

this is true depending on the contract
for example car sales does not apply
the product or service can not lose value in those 3 days

The only thing I know for sure is that it is that way with home sales. Such as those jewelry parties, cookware parties, etc. Other business contracts such as home sales, etc. I do not know.
