Hi my name is Lauren, and I am a Beauty Therapist. Not too long ago I worked in a Salon where there was a woman who rented a room in the Salon to do Footspa Detox treatments. She was told not to come back one day due to my boss reading about this so called 'Footspa Detox scam' on the internet. The way this works is, the client puts his/her feet into the foot spa, salt is added to the water and then supposidly body toxins/waste discreet from the pores of the feet turning the water a dirty brown colour. In the middle of the Footspa is a black low voltage/amperage AC to DC transformer attached to ferrous electrodes, I read that this and the salt react forming a rusty colour, in which this is the cause of the water turning a dirty brown colour. I recently started at another salon and she has joined too! claiming she had treated cancer patients using this metod of detox, this really made me angry as I think she is using cancer to big up her little scam. What do you think?

She gave a free treatment to my new boss, and she seemed somewhat happy with it. I decided to tell her about the Detox scam and she just brushed it off as if she didn't care or didnt believe me, I told her as I think its illegal too. I want to report this woman once I find out more information about the scam, hopefully I can have an article printed in my local newspaper or something. I've never done this before, and after hearing her say "I treated cancer patients using this form of Detox" she pushed me to want to do this as 3 of my grandparents died of cancer and its a nasty lie she tells so she has to be dealt with.

A true detox requires a dietary/lifestyle change, avoiding certain foods(preservatives, artificial colors & flavors, MSG, salt, simple carbs, red meat, pork) & most chemicals (fragrances, makeup, hair dye, checmical cleaning products--non-natural soap, shampoos, etc--for about a week. during this time, your body will begin recognizing the "alien" products that it's been storing, and it will evict them in any way possible...through your urine (can we say "Rainbow!?", bowels (don't stray far from a bathroom) mucus (keep tissues handy) and pores...you may sweat profusely, and you may smell like just about ANYTHING you've eaten--garlic, coffee, gumdrops, and it may even be colored...if you are a big carrot eater, expect orange tints, dye your hair red or black--you get the idea. In my experience, the colors usually show up in the palms & soles.
as far as a foot bath detoxifying someone, that's an exaggeration...it may help deep clean the feet, but we're talking about just being skin deep.

I had a few of these treatments and the water was dirty brown after the first session and quite clean after the second. For that reason I think it did work, but one treatment per year is fine for me.

well i don't know if it is a scam or not but my aunt went to a lady like this and her water was so dirty it was like mud, then my mom decided to try it and when she went hers was cloudy but she could still see her feet. so my aunt went back again and it wasn't as cloudy or "muddy". so i really can't say if it works or not but my aunt said she could "feel" something leaving her body - like waste ??? cancer i wouldn't go that far
