Got a call off a with-held number, and the guy told me to hold the line because he has another call coming, so i held the line and i hear a beeping sounded...beep beep etc continuously - next thing you know, some other guy is saying hello and asking me why I called HIM (which i didnt)
Dont know any of the guys on the phone so i dont know what happened!
And i asked the guy on the phone and he told me that he lives in london but i live in a completely different city! No connection at all...only one guy i know lives in london and he tells me it wasnt him.
And this happened about 4 times, first 2 times, i didnt talk, i just hung up.

What was going on??!!

Three way phone calls aka conference call.... the person that called you was also calling someone else when he told you to hold and technically, he was still on the line when the guy in london answered. He just didn't talk after you and the guy in london connected.

However, its somewhat costly for a phone call so whoever did it, did it for a price.

Sounds like one of those phone wind-ups. You can pay to get a recorded 'wind-up' message sent to someone's phone. The person who ordered it can hear your reaction and is laughing. The recording can apparently change depending on your reaction. Not sure how it works but I got a similar one a few weeks ago, only there was some quite abusive language in it! Had me fooled though and another friend had to tell me it was a wind-up!

He put you on hold and made a 3 way call. Then he hung up leaving the 2 of you connected.

Sounds like yet another scam, please don't give your telephone number to anyone who calls out of the blue like that again, if you get another one ring trading standards.
