Opening you're mouth pulls the cheek muscles down, opening you're eyes more, and also stiffens the muscles on the face, so you wont twitch and make a mess or get it in you're eye.
We all do it instinctively, to help us be more accurate.

so we can stretch our eyes open as far as possible to get the best coverage when applying mascara. That's the best reason i can come up with!

interesting question, i heard its for balance. but when i apply mascara (which is rare) i dont open my mouth im afraid something might fall in it.

I do it too! I think it's because opening your mouth makes your cheeks move away from the lashes a little so you don't smear.

this has been around the 20th time iv seen this question since monday alone!!!!

i think it makes it easier for us to put it on....

like y do we always close our eyes when we sneeze???? there's always going to be questions like that!!
