He probably is one of the best owners ever because of his commitment to putting a quality product on the field, how he has had his team marketed, caring for the fans and reinvesting in the product. When he bought the team in the early 1970s it was hardly worth anything and now it is worth at least $100 million, if not more. There are owners with deeper pockets than he has (Chicago Tribune) who don't put 1/10th of their money towards the franchise that Steinbrenner does. Every fan of every franchise should want an owner with the business savvy and love of the franchise like Steinbrenner has.

I am no Yankee fan, but I do believe George is the best owner in baseball. While the others whine they have no money and label the Yankees as "buying" all the good players, George is the only one that puts his money back into the team. The other owners get money from the luxury tax from people like George, they line their pockets with it instead of reinvesting in the team. Put up or shut up!!!

No doubt Mr. Steinbrenner has a one up on the rest of the field of modern day owners in MLB. He takes his responsibility as owner of the NEW YORK Yankees very seriously and is the cream of the crop as far as inserting the best coach and players on the field to be representative of 'the tradition'.
* I'm not a Yankees fan but I do own respect for the entire Yankees organization. I am a die hard baseball fan and not necessarily influenced by my team (royals) being a rival or Yankee anti sentimism.

I would say that Donna J is the most smartest person in here! She said just what i was going to say,The thing is she's not even a yankee fan!! She has a brain, and she's not some stupid jealous
yankee hater!!!!! In fact in yesterdays paper,It was noted 3 producers in hollywood approched George at some party he was at,and asked him if they could make a movie of his life story,he told them he did write his memoirs but he's not ready to have a movie made just yet,But one will be made,And Also those ppl who are waiting for him to die,Watch what you wish for!! Because his SON and Son in law are going to take over the team when he dies,AND THEY ARE GOING TO RUN THE YANKESS THE SAME WAY HE DID!!! They see the millions he made,YOU GOTTA BE A REAL ASSHOLE IF YOU THINK THERE GONNA RUN IT DIFFERENT!!!!

Yes, absolutly. You can say he buys championships or what ever. So what, ITS A BUSINESS, you get what you pay for. As long as the income exceeds the expenses which if i'm correct Yankee memorabilia sells more than any other sports franchise then he can pay the luxury tax then its all good. The bottom line with this Sports Business franchise is make more than you spend and win championships. Based on that, HE IS THE BEST

No, but he is a very smart business man. New York is a destination town, unlike KC, Oakland, or Cincinatti. He knew when he bought the team that players would want to experience NY as well as play. Plus since the standard of living is so out of whack in NY $5,000,000 doesn't go that far. If you convert it to KC dollars 5 mil is like a mil and a half. Players are too greedy and stupid to know what the money is really worth. Now that is shrewd!

He runs his ball club with an iron fist, but if the players and managers abide by his rules, he takes care of them. He's a regular nice guy compared to some current and past owners. ( Look up Charlie Finley )

he plays by the rules.he takes the money the team makes and spends it back on the team.other owners don't all do that.also he pays a luxury tax every year that is GIVEN to the small market teams, who for the most part ,DON`T spend back on their teams.
love him or hate him he wants to win.thank god for steinbrenner.
