The first thing you could do in your search for an activity is to tune in to the Carol Duvall show on HGTV every morning. She has guests demonstrating about every craft you can think of. HGTV is a tremendous resource for the crafter and hobbiest. You can go to their website at www.hgtv.com and see what kind of shows might interest you. Also the DIY network has tons of shows on hobbies and a website at www.diynetwork.com. Since you said you want to find a solitary activity,I have mentioned crafts but here are some of the things I like to do that aren't crafts...reading and writing, study foreign languages, Sudoku, trivia quizzes, listen to music and dance. Have you considered any pets? Tropical fish are quiet ( most of the time) and aid in self reflection and meditation. Another quiet, solitary activity you might be interested in is Yoga.

Hey Rach,
I love to rubber stamp, making cards, scrapbook pages, gift tags and ATC's. I do this by myself and I enjoy it! In fact last weekend I made 2 dozen greeting cards while sitting on the tailgate of my van way up in the woods! (I was in the woods cause my hubby was bow hunting) I had my paper cutter, rubber stamp sets, ink pads, glue sticks, ribbon and card stock,, I had a wonderful time and I felt really good that I accomplished so much in a few hours! Try it , you might like it. If you need pointers or you have questions go to the message board at papercraftsmagazine.com
Write a posting to chunkydunk and I will answer you with my email addy so we can converse via email.
Good luck my friend!

This is going to sound silly but it has helped my soul.
Collect "heart" rocks.
Whenever you are somewhere look for rocks that are in the shape of a heart.
My son gave me a "heart" rock about 4 years ago and it started something wonderful. Now when my family members go on trips, vacations or just whereever that is my "souvenier". I bought a coffee table at the thriftstore that is a display one and I filled it with a thin layer of bleached golf couse sand and I put all of my rock in there to display them. I believe that God places them so I remember that in the midst of all my yucky stuff in life, he wants me to know that I am loved. This summer my friends son who is 7 handed me a heart rock from Hawaii. It melted my heart because he THOUGHT of me in the throngs of a magical vacation where most kids lose all sense of normal. Some are very tiny and some are as big as a grapefruit. I am picky though because of space constraints. The "heart" has to be a definate heart shape. My daughter used to bring in any old rock and I thought it was cute but then I ran out of space so I had to be more selective.
Anyways...
You find yourself looking in parking lots etc.. for the rocks, a good time to talk with the Lord.
Good Luck!

Might I then suggest Magic the Gathering; a trading card game that has both social and independant aspects. Mainly it involves collecting cards in order to build a deck that beats your opponents deck.
The social aspect is that a large number of events and tournements go on around the world, and there are several websites and forums, such as www.magicdeckvortex.com that talk about, discuss and trade info on the subject.
The independant aspect is that it's your deck, you build it either on your own, or like many others; after having looked at others deck and taking inspiration.

Go to a hobby store and see if anything perks your interest. Join a community center that has different activities. You can try one thing fo r a bit and if it doesn't work for you, try something else. The right hobby is out there for you and you will know when you find it. Scrapbooking is really big right now, for onw idea.

Try billiards/pool. But get somebody good to teach you the basics. Practice on your own before you play with anybody. Don't give up too easy and you'll discover a whole new self....
Wining would give you a huge self confidence boost.
PS: It's a nice way to meet new people too.

I like to make quilts. I even make jeans quilts from old jeans that the local second hand store throws away. They save them for me. I do simple 6 inch squares. It's fun to put the colored jeans squares in patterns. Another fun thing to do is homemade cards. Look online for Stampin' Up. They have great parties and the cards are way fun to make. Then you can give nice cards to people to cheer them up. The best way to really make yourself over is to give of yourself to others. I love to give cards to friends and acquaintaces when I see them having a hard time or something good happens, or birthdays, Christmas etc.
Learn to cook, learn to sew, cross stitch. Grow some plants!
Learn to play an instrument.

Volunteer to help someone....it is amazing how thinking about others can help improve the way you think about yourself. In volunteering, you learn new skills, that will make you feel more independant. Try "Habitat for Humanity"..they always need someone..or join the Peace Corp....

Have you try this as a hobby
Go to this site, copy the url and paste. Its paper model making.
http://sg.search.yahoo.com/search/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fsg.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dpaper%2520model%26y%3DAll%2Bthe%2BWeb%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3DFP-tab-web-t909%26x%3Dwrt%26fr2%3Dtab-web&w=343&h=246&imgurl=www.airplane-collectible-best-net-resource.com%2Fimages%2FF16PA.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.airplane-collectible-best-net-resource.com%2Fpaper-airplane-model.html&size=12.5kB&name=F16PA.jpg&p=paper+model&type=jpeg&no=1&tt=64082&oid=46a1c7f1fdd1c70a&ei=UTF-8
By the way tell you some jokes, and the jokes goes:
-Doctor! I have a serious problem, I can never remember what i just said.
-When did you first notice this problem?
-What problem?
One more joke:
A guy calls his vet and says "What should I do with my cat?Vet says "What do you mean? Guy says "I had a leak in my lawnmowers gas tank and the cat drank the gas. Then the cat began to run around and around the yard, climbed a tree. then fell out of the tree stiff. Vet says "Is the cat dead? Guy replies "nope he ran out of gas.
Last of all just want to tell you that whatever you do, just don't give up. Also you must love and care for the people around you. In that way they will also show you the love that you show to them. Just be yourself and happy everyday. Wish you all the best and good luck!!
