Even though your friend can move out at 17 with nothing that the parents can do, most laws hold the parents responsible for that person until they are 18 where they arent considered a minor anymore. So they answer to your question is yes they can press charges on the boyfriend and more than likely he will be charged with statutory rape

Well, I guess it depends on which state you live in. There are laws regarding age of consent which is like 15-16 in some states. Not to be mean, but it's not really very healthy for a 26 year old man to be interested in a 16 year old girl.

She is not yet 17, so he can be arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possible statutory rape. "Close" to 17 is not the same as BEING 17. She is playing with dynamite and has no business fooling around with someone 10 years her senior. She is in the wrong, not the parents.

What is it with these older guys robbing the cradle?
1. He shouldn't be with her anyway. Is he such a loser that he can't find someone closer to his own age?
2. She thinks she cares for him but in reality it the fact that he is older and she thinks she is all grown up.
3. The mother should put a stop to it, that is her right as a mother.
4. What is the big hurry for this girl anyway? She has time to enjoy life.
5. Parents know things you know, they have already seen it, done it, and been their.

It depends on the state.
In Michigan, no. In Georgia, no. In Florida, yes - 16 and 17 can only have sex with people up to 24 years old (under 25).
You have to check the age of consent in your state.

If they found out about this man, even after she turns 17, they can still have him charge with statutory rape. He should no better than this, she is a child. He deserves to be in jail or at least under the jail.

It all depends on the law where you live. Where I live, that is illegal. Where I live, if a girl is not the age of 18 and the guy is over the age of 18, that's grounds to have him put in jail.

It depends on the laws in the state. But if you ask me a 26 year old shouldn't be seeing a 16 year old. What can they possibly have in common?

If they were having sex before she turned 17 he committed Statutory Rape, whether it was consentual or not.
However, can the mother proove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it happened?
Personally I think the mother is over-reacting. Add 10 years to both of their ages and it loses it's teeth.

Check the laws - many states have laws about "age of consent" you friend needs to find out why girls his age won't have anything to do with him - because he is very close to being a pedophile!! most men date girls that are much younger because girls their own age are too smart and cannot be manipulated like a younger, less experienced girl. they pressure them into things by convincing them that it is "grown up" "adult" behavior when it really is just the guys selfishness. this girl should consider the life she is committing herself too and the many things she will be missing - 17 good grief - give yourself time to grow up and get a life of your own - not one someone else manipulated you into
