I have PCOS and recently came off the Pill b/c hubby & I want to try to concieve. My last period was 09/07/06, lasting 1 week and was a result of the Pill. I have been monitoring my bbt, and it averages 97.3. This morning (day 14 after beginning my period) it was 97.8. Do you think this is indicative of ovulation?? My cervical mucous is not similar to "egg whites" yet. I'm sorry this is so long! It is just confusing, and this is my first month charting, and this was the highest temp. I've had thus far! I am also taking 2000 mg/day of Metformin. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks to all!

Please note, I am not trying to stress or not be relaxed. With PCOS there is no set time for ovulation/menustration, therefore my Dr. recommended that I check cervical mucous and basal body temp (bbt) to try to see when/if I am ovulating. I am wondering from someone who may have PCOS if a .6 degree rise is indicative of ovulation. Thank you for your help!

In order to confirm ovulation, your temperature needs to stay elevated about 0.2 degrees above your last 6 temps for a minimum of 3 days. If all of your temps for the last 6 days have been below 97.6, it is possible you have ovulated. You won't be able to confirm this though until they have remained high. However, with the absence of fertile cervical fluid, it is more likely that you have not ovulated. With this being your first cycle charting, it will be hard to tell anything for sure.

The other thing is that you have PCOS. With PCOS, even though you are on metformin, it is very likely you are not ovulating. Most PCOS women do not respond to metformin alone. Most require metformin combined with clomid at a minimum.

I know it can be difficult waiting while you are trying to conceive (trust me, I've been waiting for 6 years now). Unfortunately, patience is the name of the game here. Keep charting your cycle. Try using an online program like Fertility Friend, as it will give you lots of helpful information, and help you interpret your chart. In the event that you are not ovulating, these charts will help your doctor determine a course of action that is appropriate for you. I also have PCOS, and my charts have been very effective at helping my doctor diagnose my problem, find a solution, and determine if the solution is working.

Remember you are looking for 3 things to indicate ovulation: eggwhite cervical fluid in the 3-4 days before, a high, soft and open cervix in the 3-4 days before, and a temp spike of 0.2 degrees that remains high (3 over 6 rule - 3 high temps over six low temps).

Good Luck!

I went off the pill in April and it took me until September to get pregnant. But I have known people to miss one pill and get pregnant so you could get preg. this month but don't get discouraged if you don't. It takes time for the pill to get out of your system. I do know that if you count 14 days from the first day of your period or 9 days from the last day of your period, that is when you will most likely ovulate. I would also try a day or two before just to make sure. A lot of people don't know this, but sperm will stay fertile inside of you for three days after you have sex and I've been told that men get new sperm every month and if you have sex too much, they will use up all the good stuff and start shooting blanks so don't over do it and be patient. Also don't stress cause that will make you late and get your hopes up.

honey-it's only been two weeks...don't stress or you'll ruin the whole process. I don't know what the 9\bbt means - any ovulation kit can tell you. But I have PCOS too and have gone off/on the pill, so two weeks is not a long time for your body to get back to normal. BUt it doesn't hurt to keep trying for that baby - just don't stress so much.

Okay....Slow down...Relax.....RELAX!!!!!!!!
Stress will hinder conception. try and enjoy your husband. I am not sure what PCOS is but you should use condoms for two months after getting off of the birth control pill to minimize the risk of birth defects. After your two months of condoms are up. Then start taking prenatal vitamins, start eating a healthy diet, drinking lots of water and I would try and let nature take its course without stressing over mucus charts, BBT etc. The less stress you have the more chances you have of getting pregnant. If you have not conceived after 5 months ask us again and we will help you out. Right now your concern it to get your body healthy and ready for conception. If you are heavy try and take off some of the weight, if you are underweight try and get up to what your weight should be for your height. This will aid you in getting pregnant. Relax...take the trips that will be harder once the little one is in tow and if the moment is right enjoy yourself (when you and your partner are relaxed conception is more likely to happen). Remember that although we have become an instant society ,our bodies do not instantly do as we would like.

Day 14 in a 28 day cycle is when you are meant to ovulate, I heard you should try from day 12 to 16. A couple of my friends tried this and they both got pregnant the first month they tried to fall preg. Goodluck I hope you get pregnant soon its the most wonderful thing on this earth

"If you have PCOS you will only be ovulating occasionally or not at all, so getting pregnant without treatment may be difficult or impossible. Many women do not go to their doctors with irregular periods until they start trying to have a baby. You may only find out then that you have polycystic ovaries."
