Try the Walkabout pubs. There is a nice one at Temple station with a dance floor etc, and it's right near the river. £5 on a Friday night.
Walkabouts are all over and great fun. If you like to binge a bit, try Church in Kentish town. Despite the name, it is everything but Saintly!
