Could it be that many people see themselves as related to "the Decider in-chief"? He's like they are so they vote for him.
Could explain why George Bush, who steadfastly believes he was right about invading Iraq despite mounting evidence to the contrary, is in the White House.

That is a lot more comforting than another possibly -- massive election fraud.

Because they do not have the intelligence to know that no one is always right. Mistakes & incorrect decisions occur to everyone.
Some people are just not smart enough to recognize it.
