I have been told on numerous occaisions that white/caucasion people are more friendlier to black people with a lighter skin complexion than most black people.

One white guy once told me that he finds lighter skinned blacks easier to look at than their darker skinned counterparts.

I know within the black community it is believed that light skin blacks are more prefferred by white people because it is believed that whites cant stand anything that is too dark.

I just wanted to know if it is true.

I don't prefer or like people based on their skin color. I would choose people to be my friends because of who was nicer. I'd like to have Will Smith & Denzel Washington as my friends.!

As a white girl I don't think it makes a difference to me. When I think about it most of the black friends I have had have been dark skinned. I think most of them had parents from Jamaica or they were born in Africa. I have a friend in Norway who is very dark and guys love her because she is very pretty but she was born in Africa and her complexion is quite dark.

I think historically you are correct though. Slaves were often choicen to be domestic servants because of their light complexions. The Belgian's that occupied Rwanda actually took it a step further and created 2 classes of Rwandians by making those with lighter complexions and more "caucasion" features the upper class, although they were domestic servants. I don't find people easier to look at because they are whiter looking. Trust me there are lots of people who I don't like to look at because they are too white. I think it is unfortunite that people would even say something so stupid or even worse that they would be ruder or friendier to people based on that. Maybe I don't get it because i grew up in Canada and the black people I knew were middle class people who lived in middle class neighbourhoods and went to the same churches and I played with them and everything was just normal and that was over 20 years ago.

For your last question I would hang out with Halle Berry because she is an amazing acteress and Naomi Campbell keeps assulting people and Will Smith because he is so funny and seems nice but I do thing Denzel is hotter.

Oh and I have a friend who loves black men and the darker the better.

I've also heard that whites are more comfortable with lighter skinned blacks. Maybe there was a study to the effect or whatever. Lighter skin blacks in this case being perceived as having more white blood, something like that. In general whatever the race, lighter features are preferred particularly in women. In the black community it's commonly felt that lighter skinned blacks are more attractive, which is balderdash IMHO. Skin tone is not what makes you attractive. It's your features and body that make you attractive. That said, you all can have Denzel and Will Smith, they're okay looking. Give me some LL Cool J and Tyrese!!!! Terrence Howard and Morris Chestnut. Wesley Snipes!!! Mmmmnnnn....

There might be some truth in this, and it's down to our primitive natures. We tend to trust people who look like ourselves, but we tend to look for sexual partners because they are different. Birds of a feather flock together, but opposites attract. I've added the links on the BBC where I've read this.

As a twin I've always had a bit of interest in why people judge each other the way they do. There are lots of generalisations, and people stare at twins for looking different! I know that's a contradiction but they do.

If there was such a thing, and I've never heard any white person mention it, I think it might be primitive instinct. White people instinctly would be wary of black people, and vice-versa, but both would quickly realise that they were judging a person incorrectly. A white person walking into a room of black people would be a bit self-conscious, and vice-versa.

As an interesting fact there are seventeen different shades of black skin, but only three shades of white. Of course, no-one has truly black skin or white skin. I'm a sort of light pinkish colour.

Ultimately it comes down to this though. My friends don't have colour they are themselves. I don't chose friends based on their colour, sexual preference or culture to fit some quota system. I know it's a person's actions not their colour that is important.

This was a difficult question to answer. Hope I haven't offended anyone.

I only know 4 black people. There's just not many in the area I live which is strange. But of the 4 a know 1 mother and her 3 grown up kids, she is very dark where as her kids are much lighter. Can't say I have a preference.

I don't believe it's ever made a difference in my life.

I would LOVE for either Halle or Naomi to be my "friend!!!"

PS Fashion-wise, it seems that both whites and blacks try to "meet in the middle." Some blacks straighten their hair, and some whites try to get a tan. Go figure.

PPS I think that some features associated with each race, like flatter noses and thicker lips on blacks, and weak chins and freckles on whites, are deemed "less attractive" in the culture. I really don't mean offense but I'm trying to do justice to a very interesting question.

Again, I think the "ideal" is somewhere in the middle, for a lot of people.

I am a happily married white woman. However, I think that darker skinned black men are sexier. On the womens side I think either can be attractive according to their features. Halle Berry is definately prettier than Naomi Campbell. Why do black men seem to prefer blonde haired, blue eyed women as opposed to darker featured? I think dark hair and eyes is exotic looking. Think Cathrine Zeta Jones...is she not absolutely gorgeous?

That's just the ignorant view of a few bigots. I get along with anyone who is a nice person. The colour of their skin means nothing. I think Naomi Campbell would be the last choice on a date list for anyone who prefers not to end their date at A&E

I would have to disagree what "Whites cant stand anything that is too dark"...'whites' are the ones that go tanning everyday! I would have to be honest with you and say that when there is a black person that is so dark their eyes stand out and teeth do too it is kind of "crazy" to see...but as far as the question of who I would choose to be my friend...

Halle Berry because she seems much nicer, and Will Smith for the same reason.

I don't think that is generally true. As an ex sailor I went to Africa, the middle east and the far east as well as Portsmouth so I have had my share of variety and I enjoyed all the colours. I call it clitoris all-sorts. My present lady is a tequila brown.

My girlfriend likes white men. My other friend (female and platonic) likes black men. I once met a woman who likes Indian men. I like light black and dark black and brown and yellow and white and Indian/Pakistani and Chinese and Iranian women.

I got a politically correct libido.
