Definitely. My daughter is learning disabled. She has been flawlessly matching colors since she was 1 1/2 years old. She is the best dressed kid around, matching and coordinating colors of all shades. She has had various different favorite colors throughout her lifetime, including pinks, violets, green, and her favorite favorite for many years... BLACK!
By the way, she is an adult now and has worked at a local clothing store for a couple years.

People who are mentally retarded can most definitely SEE color (unless they are color blind), but may have problems identifying colors. Mental retardation does not affect a person's ability to see... just process information.

to have mental retardation, you have to have: an IQ below 70, an adaptive behavior deficit, and it has to occur during the developmental period. This has nothing to do with color.
In school, functional skills are usually focused on, color being one of them, so depending on the level of mental retardation (you've got mild, moderate, severe, profound), your answer is maybe, maybe not.
Children with mild and some with moderate intellectual disabilities can determine color, the other are quite unlikely.

yes they can and by the way how you are talking it sounds like you are talking about colorblindness and blind. I have mild mental retardation.
We do see colors and we can do alot of things.
We have trouble with things in our life but we work very slow but get our assignment down eventually.

Yes, I have an autistic grandson and he has his favorite colors. He will go to the objects that are of a color that he likes.

I WORK WITH THE MENTALLY CHALLENGED, MENTALLY ILL AND AUTISTIC HUMAN BEINGS. THEY CAN BE TAUGHT TO LEARN ANYTHING IF THEIR ATTENTION SPAN IS NOT TO SHORT. MOST OF THE PEOPLE I COME IN CONTACT WITH CAN SEE COLOR AND WILL NAME IT BECAUSE IT WAS TAUGHT TO THEM.

I'm sure they can. They might be slow but they are functional. "Normal" people sometimes can not identify all colors. Colorblind!
