I had an ulcer (and very well could still have it) and I have noticed recently that I get extremely gassy after eating/drinking milk products. Since the Ulcer was diagnosed I tend to have diahrreha more often the I ever had my entire life. Could and Ulcer cause me to have issues with breaking down lactose or could I have become lactose intolerant?

You still have the ulcer. 98% of ulcers are caused by a bacteria/germ called pylori something. I can't remember the entire name, but I do know that 2% never "cure" their ulcer, or it comes back later. I was diagnosed with multiple ulcers and a hernia 9 years ago, and I have problems to this day. I don't think antibiotics helped that doc gave me then.

Anyway, milk is not recommended for anyone with ulcers, it takes TOO long to break down and can irritate the stomach/ulcer.

P.S. My doc gave me a whole list of foods NOT to eat/drink. Which turned out to be EVERYTHING I ate/drank everyday. I was MISERABLE for a while, until he prescribed me Prilosec, then I could eat everything without any pain, etc. Here is the list he gave me:
milk/cheese
coffee,cola(caffeine also)
aspirin/ibuprofen
lettuce/raw greens(they take a long time to break down)
tomatoes(acidic)
potatoes(acidic)
mexican/italian/chinese foods(contain acids and too many spices)
chocalate(acidic/caffeine/milk solids)
The list goes on and on...
Get some Prilosec or another similar med, eat bland foods like boiled chicken, rice, etc.,(yuck!) and let your stomach heal for a little while. Then, you can start reintroducing some of the above BANNED foods a little at a time. The upside is if you need to lose some weight, following the BLAND diet will do the trick, I lost 80 pounds over a 4 to 8month period. Good luck, and talk to your doc.

an ulcer is caused by too much acid in the stomach that eventually eats away at the stomach lining, stress can also cause this to happen. milk is not an acidic food and will not inflame the stomach or the ulcer, it may actually be coating it, thats why it's a good idea to drink a little milk after eating acidic foods to prevent heart burn. I can definately tell you the ulcer would not have caused this problem, but sometimes over time as we get older we develope certain allergies and you may have just grown intolerant to milk.

Ok an ulcer is now very curable you go to the doctors get a pill that will actually treat the ulcer within 2 weeks an ulcre is actually an infection that causes the lining to open & bleed very treatable & most doctors will con people into saying take this & that but after 2 weeks the ulcers should have healed & you can live a normal life. Times have changed. There was a show on on of our TV stations last week about it & very interesting as most people think they will have them for life....

Milk contains lactic ACID. Like any ACID, milk can inflame an ulcer. I'd leave off the milk until you get the ulcer cured.
