Does anyone know the name of the train that runs along the British Columbia coast line from I believe Vancouver to Alaska-more than likely Juneau or Anchorage? I used to live in Seattle in the early 1990's and saw it andvertised many times! Just wanted to know the name and if it still operates? The cost would be nice should you have that information also! (It's a tourist train )

There is no line that goes along the coast of BC to Alaska but there is The Rocky Mountaineer train that goes through some beautiful country in BC but it won't get you to Alaska.

As stated, there is no coastal train; it is too mountainous. The furthest you can get on the coast from Vancouver is Whistler. Most rely on BC and Alaska Ferries for those trips.

What you might have seen is for White Pass & Yukon Route. I think the name has slightly changed over the years, and service varies from year to year. But if you are talking lots of advertisement about Alaska (as seen in Washington) and tourist service, and mentioning the coast then this is the most likely what you saw. The line runs from Skagway Alaska into the Canadian Yukon.

The Via Rail train goes from Vancouver to Jasper and back to Prince Rupert. It is a great trip but a very round about route. Once in Prince Rupert you are just south of the Alaska panhandle and you walk across the parking lot to catch an Alaska Ferry from there.

There is no train that follows the coast to Alaska. In Southeast Alaska the only train is the narrow Gauge railroad out of Skagway. There is also a short section of track only a few hundred meters long located at Saxman Seaport in Ketchikan.
