keep the (helium filled) balloon in the air. try using only for example the head or only the feet for more fun.
pin the tail on the donkey
pinata (especially boys, mine LOVE wacking it)
treasure hunt, and let them design they're own bags with markers
tag (including fun versions like freeze, tv, book, and amoeba, which just incase you dont know is when there is a tagger and when he/she tags another person they have to hold hands and tag other people and soon you have a huge chain of taggers. really fun game )
hide and go seek tag
duck duck goose
crab soccer
slip'n slide (great for outdoor hot weather)
musical chairs
follow the leader
hopscotch
four square
jump rope relay.
drawing with chalk
finger painting... i could go on and on...
one more thing: there is this really fun game played similarily to musical chairs. there is one big wrapped box that has tons of smaller wrapped boxes inside, getting smaller as you go along, till you have the smallest box. anyway, the game is: you pass the big box around in a circle and somebody plays music, stopping it at random times. whoever is holding the box when the music stops gets to unwrap a layer and it keeps going untill the last box lands in somebodies hands and this person is awarded with a prize of some kind.

An fairy Surprise Hunt
(Idea borrowed from the Easter Bunny)
Have some cute little boxes or bags (maybe from like everything a buck) and fill with age appropriate surprises. Tell them the fairy has placed surprises all over the the yard The kids scramble like they are on an easter egg hunt which is always fun. *Remember to have a few xtras so everyone gets at least one fairy bag.

Each child can have their own fairie wings made from wire and gause. Often you can find these pre-made at costume shops. If they are too expensive - give them to the birthday girl only.

YOu could go to a craft store and get some really cool stuff to make fairy wands. And let each child choose from the decorations to make their own fairy wand.

For decorations: go to a fabric or craft store and get some pastel colored toile (veil type mtl) If White is all they have you could use spray glitter on it. Drap rom the trees/bushes or across snack table for a fantasy feel.

When at the craft store...look in the wedding section to see if they have anything you could use. And also check out the Halloween Section.

-Also make some glittery stars and moons to put all over.

The below is a cool website that may spark some ideas. Hope some of this helped. Sorry this was so long but I love fairies and doing parties....you'll have a blast!

There are a lot of games that can be modified to fit your theme. Almost all can be played by children of all ages here are a few of my ideas.
Draw or paint some flowers on half of a bed sheet and hang with the flowers facing the children, then get dowels about a yard long with a string and a clothes pin attached to one end. you can paint or glue a fairy on the clothes pin. The child tosses the line over the sheet and then you attach a prize. Like the old fishing game.
Try the clothes pins on a bottle, you can use wider mouthed bottles for the younger children. Paint the clothes pins different pastel colors see how many they can get in the bottle from either a standing or kneeling on a chair.
Pin the wings on the fairy. Like pin the tail on the donkey. You will need to draw the fairy and the wings.
Musical chairs children of all ages can play this one. Play some fairy sounding music, something with flutes and wind chimes.
I really hope that this was some help.

Pin the wings on the fairy...and if you have a dollar tree store near you, they have cute fairy wings for a dollar, you could buy a bunch and either hang them from trees or hand them out to the little girls (they're the kind girls can wear). Well, the Dollar Tree store near me do, but I can't promise about your area. You can have a little craft area where kids can make their own wand, all you need for that is star shaped pieces of stiff paper or foam, glue and sticks (popsicle or even unsharpened pencils). Throw in some glitter and BAM, you have some really cheesy wands (but the kids looooove them). I'm not sure what your budget is, but I always try to save money on these things. My kids are four and three, and they have no idea mom is a cheapskate when it comes to parties!
Anyway, those are a couple of things that have worked for me (my daughter is obsessed with princesses, so I've done alot with wands and wings and sparkly things).
Have a great party!

What a great age category!!! I have two girls ( teens now ) but preparing their parties was such fun, especially at that age!
Fun outside games are ring-toss, hop-scotch, kick-ball, lawn darts ( the safe kind obviously ), horse-shoes (plastic), a pinata
swung at a safe distance!!!.
Since it will be warm, a sprinkler or pool adds many more possibilities with the water.
Decor? They both love fairies, even now. Try to get paper or plastic wings from a party store so the kids can wear them. You can make them too. Have flowery hair rings for the girls to wear.
Boys don't really care about hair stuff.... And hang lots of ribbon from the trees etc...
But don't be too surprised if they barely notice the decor. It';s party time and they are 4! ha ha...enjoy!

Some fun games are scavenger hunts and pinatas! Maybe a bouncy house or something, kids really enjoy those. Musical chairs and have prizes for them when they win. As for decorations why not decorate with one of the most famous faries tinker bell. im sure youll have no problem finding decorations with her. also maybe something different for the boys that way they wont feel left out, possibly petter pan and tinker bell. Balloons are great in parties and if using a pinata put a ton of confetti because getting confetti all over you is great, especially when your four. hope this helps

Of course, I immediately thought of the old Pin The Tail On The Donkey and Twister.

You could try something like hide little fairy dolls or boxes of sparkling stars with ribbons on them all over the yard and have the children hunt for them. Either just let whoever finds the most win a little prize or else put something in the boxes like little cheapy rings or barrettes (anything tiny).

Pink or lavender balloons with mauve or pale green gauzy ribbon and maybe some sparkles on the balloons. The more balloons, the better.

Bubbles are always kind of fairy-like

Keep any candy pastel

Little, tiny, bunches of "fairy-color" tiny flowers with gauzy ribbon and maybe pastel lollipops tied into the bunch.

Make or buy tiny toothfairy pillows. You could make them out of cream or white satin with lace or ribbon making the seams. Use crazy glue or craft glue rather than sewing these. The kids may not need them this year, but they can save them.

Gauzy-ribbon with sparkles bows either as decorations or for the children to wear.

How fun---fairies! I have boys so I was never able to do cute, girly parties!

I tend to go a little overboard though when it comes to decorating and themes! I LOVE birthdays (mine is Sunday!!!) so I want to make it special for my kids as well.

My older son had a Spiderman 4th birthday. We did a cool activity of having the kids decorate small clay pots with Spiderman stickers and then I gave each kid an ivy plant and told them it for the character in Spiderman and had them guess which one. POISON IVY----get it! Loved that one, and so did they kids. They were excited to take their own plant home. You could do the same thing with the fairie theme. Just get some fairie stickers and pens and let the kids go to town. I would get a pretty flower for the girls though. You could even get some glitter and have the kids add that to the top of their planted flower and tell them that it is Fairie Dust. Just check around Lowe's or Home Depot to buy a flat of flowers or however many you need. Plus, that takes up some time between the decorating and filling the pots and planting. We did it outside to minimize the mess!

I also filled some balloons with Spiderman stickers and then the kids got to sit on them to pop them and see which one they got. It was funny for the smaller ones who really didn't have the weight behind them. The parents were bouncing their kids on the balloon until they popped! Just go behind and pick up all the balloon pieces!

As far as decor, I would definitely go with pastels for balloons, paper goods and streamers. Fairie wings would look cute if you hung them on the walls. Plus, those could double as dress-up or Halloween costumes later!

I have made coloring books for the boys, but I generally put those in the goodie bags. Just Google some Fairie images and copy them onto paper and write the info from the party on them. I also made name-tags which are super cute and functional! The kids love them too! I would go to Google and find a cute picture to put on the left. Nothing too involved since it would be small. Then you name each child a fairie! HOW CUTE!!! Grass Fairie Michelle, Flower Fairie Sarah, Tree Fairie Joanie, Bunny Fairie Morgan, etc. Just adds a little more to your theme. BTW, I used a sheet for a online packing label to make my labels. Cheaper than going out to by them!

If you need any more help, let me know! I LOVE to plan my boy's parties!!!

Twister, Hot Potato, give them chalk and let them draw on the ground if you are outside, get a couple of disposible cameras and them to the kids (make sure you have at least 3) so they can take pics of each other, Red light Green light (again if you are outside).
You can make up a few too like who can name the book, movie or TV show a charater is in, or go on line to the Disney, Nickelodeon websites and see what games they have.

As for decorating...Get some xmas lights from the $$$ Store, hand them all over, get a bubble maker machine (they are around $15 at Target), make some big tissue paper flowers and put them all over the walls so it looks like they are in the forest and they are little compared to the flowers, give them wings, wands, put glitter lotion/make up on them so they look like fairies.
Most of those things can be found at the Dollar Tree stores or Party City.

Sounds like fun...Have a great time...

Have a pie eating contest - with whipped cream! Use a pie tin filled with whipped cream for each child; place a SMALL piece of bubble gum somewhere in the whipped cream. With their hands behind their backs, the first one to find the gum, chew it up and blow a bubble is the winner.

Apple bobbing - without the water! Tie a rope between two points, a clothesline works well. Use string to tie apples - one's with stems - at an average height for each child along the line. Have the kids put their hands behind their backs. Get ready, set & go - the first child to take a bite out of the apple wins!

Good luck!

When my youngest was little we had a party for her every year and wanted her 4th birthday to be a tad bit smaller than her 5th upcoming birthday....because the 5th is such a milestone. So for her 4th birthday we got one of those huge parachute-type gyymboree things with handles all around and we made her party a soccer party (she was playing soccer then) and we had everyone get around and hold onto the contraption and we put the soccer balls in the middle and they just got the biggest kick out of it. And when the soccer balls went flying because someone messed up it was even more hilarious. With a fairy theme you could do something similar if you can find a tinkerbell ball or pillow even. Our soccer "balls" were soccer pillows, the kids loved them!! Best wishes, every birthday is special for a young one!!! Prayers =)
