As the male approaches ejaculation the nervous system takes over and he gets to a point where he has no control over the muscle contractions. The glands contract to expell the fluids that make up the semen, The muscles of the pelvis area get ready to contract, but most importantly the semen has to travel down a tube ( the urethra ) in order to do this a muscular action called peristalsis takes place in which the muscles of the urethra contract in a rythmic wave action. Peristalsis is a strong action. It is the same action used when you swallow food, when drops of urine pass from the kidney to the bladder. When you throw up that is reverse peristalsis so you know it can be strong. Well anyway glands contract, muscles contract, and peristalsis occurs there will be about 10 contratctions which result in 10 spurts of semen and it occurs about every .8 of a second. Semen can be ejaculated up to several feet. When in the vagina the semen is place right up agains the opening of the uterus with out any trouble. As a man gets older his muscles get weaker he will not shoot semen it will just ooze out of the end. If he drink to much, smokes to much, or damages his circulatory system a man may not ejaculate at all and may not be able to get an erection.

Ejaculation occurs when a set of muscles contract inside the man's body. The faster and harder the contraction, the more forceful the ejaculation.
