It's not on hold (I'm not good with technology but I'm not that bad!!). I've three ways of charging - via the computer - via speakers and via lead in the car - none are making it work which makes me think there is something wrong with the iPod itself... Thanks for advice guys.

Reset it, if it's a nano simply turn the hold on then back off, then press and hold (at the same time) the center and menu buttons (about 6-10 seconds) until the apple logo appears.

Of course, the first step is to make sure it's not on "hold."

Second, try pushing the center (select) and menu buttons at the same time for a couple of seconds. This should restart your iPod.

If that doesn't work, try hooking it up to your computer to sync. That should wake it up.

iPods, of course, can be a little flaky, too. So you may need to reinstall the software (use the iPod updater or iTunes 7 to do this). Yo may need to reload your music and such, but after that it will work.

If that fails, drop by an Apple Store if there's one near you and talk to one of the geniuses. They may be able to wake it up.

Good luck.

Plug in the mains adaptor and wiggle the connector into the ipod around... could be your lead is faulty... to reset... switch hold on then off.. and press menu and centre button together untill the 'apple' logo comes up.. can take upto 2 minutes.....
ALSO, wiggle the hold switch several times.. in case that's got a sticky connection... g'luck x
