I have a book that I want to write, how should I go about it? Once I get it written what do I do next with it? Is it hardto do? Has anyone ever done this and been successful?

Writing and publishing are two very different things. If you are good at writing, you may not be good at publishing. My suggestion is to get yourself an agent. If you cannot interest an agent, chances are your writing is not all that good. Self-publishing is generally an exercise in futility, because there is no distribution chain. But if you are writing for an established audience, such as club members or people with certain hobbies, then fine; self-published is no more complicated than going down to the local printers (even Kinko's) and asking questions.

How you should go about writing the book is using the magic of word processing. Write outlines, notes, fragments of dialog, whatever you need, and paste it together, and edit and edit and edit. Yes, it's hard to do. I self-published a book of poems once, which went exactly nowhere. (Well, not literally nowhere; I sold them to the tourists in San Francisco who came to open mike night at the Wine Cellar Cafe.)

Make an outline. This is your plan for the book.
Write the book using the outline as a guide.
Keep a notepad and pencil with you at all times to write down any ideas you may have. You never know when inspiration may strike
Revise, Revise, Revise, and Revise again. Get someone to read and critique it, and find any errors you missed.
Go to lulu.com to publish it, but you will have to do your own layout (typesetting.)
