Cold sores are herpies and you can get those from sharing stuff like that.

Despite how rude you've been in answering other's questions (like the guy with the circumcision or the one with girlfriend's who have burning and itching after intercourse), I've decided to be a nice human being that you and actually provide a helpful answer.

A blister does NOT mean you have herpes. There are things called fever blisters too. Usually, herpes presents as a cluster of blisters and more often on the lips than on the tongue. They are very painful and usually cause fever and malaise (means you feel crappy). So it doesn't sound like this is the case. Also, even if your son did have oral herpes, this is not always a sexually contracted disease. Yes, sharing glasses (i think you meant to say that, not Classes) or straws can transmit the virus. How do you think little kids get cold sores? Problem is, if you have oral herpes, you CAN transmit this to a person's genitals through oral sex.

So, in summary, from what you've described, it doesn't sound like herpes, but to answer your question, yes you CAN contract it from sharing things like straws, lipstick, etc.

OMG. HERPES, not herpies.

Share a class? Do you mean GLASS? If they have an open cold sore, then yes, you can get them. Same with a straw.

Genital herpes? You would have to have sex with the person.

Did you mean herpes?
If so just don't kiss em hard!

Here is some serious info
--------------------------------
If a person is experiencing symptoms orally, we recommend abstaining from performing oral sex and kissing others directly on the mouth until signs have healed and the skin looks normal again. Because most adults have oral herpes, we do not advise that a person stop giving or receiving affection altogether between outbreaks (when there are no signs or symptoms) simply because they have oral herpes. However, using a barrier (such as a dental dam) or condom when performing oral sex (even though there are no symptoms present around the mouth) can reduce the risk of contracting genital herpes.

yes, definetely. It categorizes that the saliva of the individual can cause bacteria or virus from the other's mouth. But there is an exemption from that situation due to the fact that the individual person strongly enough for the practising and exercising strategy for the obviation of a person that has herpies.

To answer your question yes, you can get herpes from eating or drinking after someone with the virus, however, if there is not an active infection (an actual cold sore or fever blister on the other person) then the risk is much much lower. IThe virus can lay dormant in the system from many years. You could have the virus and never have and outbreak. You could be the one with the virus and not have known it. Just because you have herpes (speaking only about mouth sores) does not mean you are sexually active. Many children get it from their parents or eating and drinking after their friends.

yes you can. be careful. once you get cold sores(and let me just say that cold sores on the mouth are super common and it doesn't mean your friend is a slut!)they don't go away. they will pop up once in a while.
wash your hands all the time. don't share drinks with anyone ever! and if you do get cold sores take Lysine. Lysine is a supplement you can buy anywhere. it keeps cold sores from popping out all the time. you can still have a normal life just be clean and careful not to give them to others. Good Luck.

You can ONLY get the disease if you have contact with the person. If anyone has sex with someone with this desease, open sores or not, they can *STILL* contact the virus, so dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Also, it is perfectly safe to attend class with anyone with any disease, even AIDS, so dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Also, if there is someone in your class who has this, and it is not a rumor, then talk to your school nurse, your parents, anyone, and let them know your fears, and if you feel unsafe, ask for a tranfer from your class, as that would be your right to do so, but try to not hurt that person, who contracted the disease because someone was dishonest to him/her, and they did not ask for that to happen to them, so try and be very diplomatic about it. As for sharing personal items such as straws, etc, please, refrain from this in all situations, even your best friends, because I shared with my friend when I was in the seventh grade, and I got MONO from it, the kissing disease, and was sicker than a dog for three weeks! So, be very careful and try to not let stero-types and rumors rule your life. Talk to adults, not children, and dont listen to the immature morons on here as they will misslead you and waste your time. Take care of yourself and stay healthy, young and carefree!

Yes, especially if the person's herpies is active...open sore on the corner of their mouth is one clue.
