Write it as
x * 1.45 = 650,000
x = 650,000 / 1.45

Hope i can make this sound a bit easier for you
You oringinally had 100% but now you have 145% because you had a 45% increase.
After increase
145% = $650,000
Always find one percent, by dividing through by the new percentage
1% = 650,000 / 145
To get the percentage you require, just multiply up.
So, 100% = (650,000 / 145)*100
You originally had 100% which is $448275.86
Hope that helps a little

I'm not sure if your equation would work, but I know the following will:
650,000 = x + .45x
The end result is the beginning number plus its 45% increase.
Hope this makes sense. Good Luck.

$448275.86
An easier way to write the equation is x+.45X = 650,000. Then, 1.45x = 650,000 and x = 650,000/1.45

The equation should read:
x + .45x = 650,000
Solving for x:
1.45x = 650,000
x = 650,000 / 1.45
x = 448,276
-------------------
**Always** Check your answer:
448,276 * 45% = 201,724
448,276 + 201,724 = 650,000
Good luck in your algebra class!

let the oroginal number be X
increased number = 650000
therefore increase in number = 650000 - X
AND increase % = 45%
NOW using formula : increase % = ( Increase/Original ) *100
we get...
45 = [(650000-X) / X ] * 100
45/100 = (650000-X) / X (after cross multilying 100 to RHS )
