I live in the country and have my own septic system that requires bacterial growth so NO I wouldn't use the chlorine tablets. I once used harsh cleaning chemicals in my toilets and it killed the bacteria. Had a horrible back-up problem. I use Septic System Treatment each month to insure growth in the system. By using chlorine of any kind I am defeating the purpose.

When was your septic last pumped? It could need pumped OR you could have roots that have grown into your pipes that need to be taken out. We live on a septic and have had to pump it. It never backed up into anything, the toilet just didn't flush right and the drains were slow. However, the very first house we owned (city sewer) we had the sewer back into the tub. We put draino type stuff in but it didnt work. We couldn't figure out what was wrong so we called Roto Rooter and he had the equipment to snake down the pipes into the sewer mains and actually saw the roots from the inside of the pipes. After that we would occasionally put down stuff to kill off roots that grow into the pipes. We lived there 6 years and never had another problem. Good luck and Goddess Bless!

Chlorine in the sludge tank will effect the break down of the sludge, if used continually, the sludge tank will have to be pumped out more often. I suggest a bacterial additive once a month to keep the the break down process working, there are different brands that can be found at the grocery store next to the toilet cleaners.

Do not use any clorine products with a septic system. Being safe for the pipes is not the problem its that it kills the bacteria you need to eat the waste products. When it kills it then you system will no longer work properly and you could have terrible backup waste problems in your yard. This costs you money.

Chlorine tablets is a good choice. Stronger chemicals such as Drano and acid are not good for septics because it breaks away the grime and gunk and then clogs your over flow.
