We live near the coast and love it, its not boring in the winter. It’s the best time of the year as all of the tourist are away and the locals can enjoy the quieter roads & beaches once again.
We live in Dumfries & Galloway there’s so many beautiful places to visit for free if you like wrapping up and keeping fit.
We once lived in a big city never again. Go for it.
But remember it's up to you to make it work!

First I have to say, I love the "Coast" anywhere I've ever been, but it offers far more than just a summer splash.
You certainly should enjoy beaches to begin with,,,and even in Winter, you can still explore a beach, have a view, very few others on the planet can enjoy, and you'll likely have a usual life beyond the beach,,,such as going out the front door occasionally in living those other aspects of your life.
I happen to live in Florida, so I don't consider that Winter even exists, and have owned an East Coast beach house. My life wasn't altered greatly in the large sense, just because my back yard was sand and the Atlantic Ocean.
"RETIRE" I'll hope you're still somewhat active, and don't intend a rocker on a deck, just LOOKING OUT,,,although that can be an extremely enjoyable expense of time.

Some people manage to live on the Coast all year round without actually getting bored! It depends what lifestyle you are currently used to.

Hi there, i'm still young, but it depends on where to the coast you want to retire. A lot of elderly people retire to Florida because of the good weather there year-round. They don't have to stay shut-in. I hope to retire to Savannah, GA or Tybee Island when I get to retirement age in about 20 years but I know i'll be happy cooped up in my house with my animals. =) Good luck with retirement!

Go for it. Retire on the coast. Just don't come crying to us when you get washed away by a hurricane.
