Yeah English is a difficult one, isn't it? Lots of strange rules.

I teach English as Second Language and I feel bad for my students. I know I am lucky cause English is my native language.

The plural of goose is geese, but the plural of mongoose is mongooses.
Tooth-teeth, booth-booths, child-children
The English language comes from many sources:
From Latin
From Latin through French
From various Germanic sources through Anglo-Saxon
Many technical terms from Greek
"Borrowed " words from Gaelic, Portguese, Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, and many other languages.
I can't help but feel somewhat sorry for people who have to learn English as a second language.
What about words like tough, through, cough, hiccough,
enough, plough, with "ough" pronounced in six different ways?
